Robert Gallion
Birth: 1841
Illinois, USA
Death: Nov. 18, 1862
St. Louis City
Missouri, USA

Osage County, Missouri

Captured at Hopkins, Missouri, on September 15, 1862

Can you give me a source for Robert's capture? According to Wikipedia, there is a Hopkins in Nodaway county, MO, but was founded after the civil war. I also just tried searching Nodaway County and have yet to find more. Robert was my husband's 2nd great-grandmother's brother. He was an orphan living with Harrison and Patty Haslet in 1850 and 1860. They disappeared without a trace, so I wonder if they were captured as well.

Thanks so much, Julie. Yes, all is well here. Our oldest daughter had our 2nd grand baby April 27th, a day after our granddaughter's 4th birthday. Still working with genealogy club here in updating Bates County cemeteries. We have about 40 inactive cemeteries on private lands that need to be pictured.

Edith Thomae
Hi Julie,

Thanks for locating Edith Thomae's grave for me. Not only did you clarify the surname spelling (I had it as Thomas), but it opened up a whole new branch of my tree.

Captain Alexander

My ancestor was with the 12th Ohio Cavalry when Captain Alexander was killed. I found information in Jonathan Songers obituary that George L Andrews was on picket duty with Songer when the attack happened. Songer was wounded in the knee. In 1871, Songer's wound reopened, and lockjaw set in. Above is a link to the story .
