"RECORDING OF A CEMETERY" |
By Thelma Reagan and
edited by Betty Kuebler
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we walked where others wept
For those whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babes;
Snatched from the arms of their mothers,
Who had to live on, and be brave.
Today we saw where grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Their beds are kissed by the sun and rain
As your's will be, and mine.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust."

Copyright courtesy requested! If you wish to use a photo that I have uploaded to a memorial here on FAG, and post it to another website 'as yours', KINDLY ASK ME FIRST. In general, I don't mind if anyone uses my photos for their personal records, and I would hope my name would be included for the source file. But please, if you're going to post them to a FEE-BASED/SUBSCRIPTION website (including Ancestry, which as we all know ultimately profits from "everything" contributed to their site), it would be nice if credit to the photographer (me) could be given within the posting. I don't know if other sites make this possible, but something such as: "Photograph taken by Roxanne Weathers, would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for photographing the headstones at Best Bottoms, but more importantly, THANK YOU for the notes you added when you didn't locate the headstone. # 1, this will prevent people from requesting a photograph of the marker and #2. just Maybe, it will make someone question, is this person really buried here? I so wish, people would give the reason they think their (and my) loved one is buried in a cemetery and there isn't a headstone. Again, Thanks so much!!

Thank you for the information Roxanne! We were consulted and they used some of our research for the show. It was really neat being a part of something like this. If you watch it again you will see a thank you in the credits for my mother and I. Have a great day!

Thanks for the note Roxanne. I'm just learning how to navigate the site. What an interesting quest by so many, but such a help to many.
