My name is Ron Alderson and I live at Fayetteville, Arkansas. |
I think it's about time to transfer most my memorials. I'm getting kinda old and I don't seem to have enough time to take care of them.
So, what I would like to do is, when someone has a correction for me, just ask for a transfer if you are a family member to that memorial. There are a few close family members that I would like to keep for now, but not that many.
I only ask that when you recieve a transfer that you take good care of it

Thanks for letting me know about Pearl.
|Richard Harvey||RE: Elizabeth Lane Dutton|
Another interesting bit of information. Moses daughter Sarah Jane was married to Joseph Thompkins Phillips. According to Sara Jane Phillips obituary, found in Find A Grave memorial #20674204, their 4th child was a daughter. Her name is Elizabeth Idella Pemberton Phillips. Here is another Mose Dutton descendant with that Pemberton name. I wish I knew why that name keeps popping up. I read somewhere that my great grandmother (C. P. Dutton Williams) name was Chillisa Pemberton Dutton. I just can't remember where I read it. You know when I started doing geneology, there was no internet. We had to go to libraries, courthouses, graveyards, museums, the national arcives, etc... I have read a lot and my memory is not always perfect. There is absolutely no doubt that my great grandmother's name was C. P. Dutton Williams, as she swore to that fact. Her tombstone says Chillisa Williams. The only fact not know for sure is if the P. that she had sworn to, in the Cherokee Document, stands for Pemberton or Pendelton, or what. Could Mose name have been Pemberton, as opposed to Pendelton? Will send a copy to the picture I have, to your e-mail address. It will be from Richard Harvey. Thanks for all your help.

I will take any of them that you would like me to have. Certainly do understand if you would like to keep your wife's ancestors. Do you have a copy of Elizabeth L. Dutton's Obituary. It was written by one of his grandchildren. If you do not have it. I will be happy to send it to you. On my great grandmother's death certificate, it says her mother was named Pemberton. My great grandmother was Moses Jefferson Dutton's sister, just a couple years older than him.
Also, if you do not have a photo of Elizabeth L. Dutton, I will send you a copy of the one that my grandmother willed to me.

You know that the obituary states that her maiden name was Lane. I believe it was written by a Phillips relative of mine. As you may know, I am a great grandson of Chillisa P. Dutton Williams. She signed her name to several serious documents in her application for membership to the Cherokee Nation in 1896. Her certified signature reads C. P. Williams.
There is some question as to her name possibly being Mallisa, as that is how it is shown on the marriage record. The marriage record is not something that she signed, under penalty of perjury. The Cherokee Application contains her signature that is certified and the person who certified it had to produce certified proof that they were who they purported to be. Very serious business, these applications. Some people are under the mistaken belief that Chillisa is only a nickname. As you may know, one does not affix a nickname to a legal document that is certified as a legal name. I think the clerk simply made a mistake when he drew up the marriage documents, as this information was verbally communicated to him and not written down by the person in question.

I have a photo of her that belonged to my grandmother, Nannie Beulah Williams Harvey Kruse. She passed in 1967. On the back of the photo is inscribed by my grandmother, "Grandmother Dutton". That does not help us to solve the question that you have asked. I have not seen the bible inscription; however, I am sure that the people who have it are telling the exact truth. I myself an not a member of the LDS church; however, over the years, I have worked with a number of people who are. In the old days, LDS would not share their vast information with non members. As you are aware, today, that is not the case. These people claim to have marriage records showing that Moses Dutton was married to Elizabeth Lane in April of 1841. She would have been nearly 21 yrs old at the time. It is possible that her maiden name could be Ferguson, just as the bible record says. She could have married young to a man named Lane. Perhaps he died or they divorced prior to her 1841 marriage to Moses P. Dutton. That would account for her name as shown on the marriage record. On the otherhand, there is the matter of the monument inscription. It says Elizabeth L. wife of Moses, etc... Perhaps we read too much into the L. It could mean Linda, Lucinda, Lucretia, Lucy, etc... Most people did have a middle name. I have given this question much thought and have come to the conclusion that I would have to have more evidence to make a definite correct answer for your question. I do know that Moses Dutton was a man of very high moral character. Such was the case with my grandmother.
My mother was a very devout Christian woman, who had lived in the same 2 room house with my grandmother Williams/Harvey. My mother knew her very well. Mom was a Sunday school teacher who knew a lot of good Christian women in her day. Mom said that my grandmother was "the greatest Christian woman that I ever knew". I believe that some of these questions will not be answered in our lifetime. Have a very blessed day, Ron.

Hello Mr. Alderson,
My name is Richard Harvey. I am the son of Lee O. Harvey, son of Nannie Beulah Williams, daughter of Thomas J. Williams and Chillisa P. Dutton Williams, daughter of Rev. Moses P. Williams (find a grave memorial number 35033670) As you can see Moses Paul Dutton is my 2nd great grandfather. I have been working on family history for many years.

In the event that I have not thanked you, personally, for the transfers that you have provided me with, I wish to do so at this time.
My retirement from all my social and family duties have dwindled down since my health has had the opportunity to allow me to beat my God given expiration date, with the help of family, fantastic physicians and hospital, and the implantation of a pacemaker. Rest is my priority when not doing some physical duties, yet Find A Grave and family ancestry tracing is still fun.
To all my Find a Grave friends, you have all been a tremendous help with your contributions to me and especially to this site.
Happy Easter, be safe, have fun and Thank You.
