Our findagrave activity stemmed from my love of genealogy, photography and old gravestones, strengthened when we saw the damage one year of weather does to an older stone that cannot stand the test of time well. We believe everyone deserves to be remembered, beyond plain, cold statistics, and document as much as we are able, especially as we travel. This is a wondrous site where the upcoming generations can easily find their history and ancestors. Even after we are gone, our work will remain. Thank you, Findagrave. |
We are all simply the guardians of those we have kindly added until their family comes along. I am eager to transfer anyone who is not family to family. People with kind, sincere words thrill me.
I take my heritage, 'graving' and documentation very seriously and most respectfully. Accuracy is of the most utmost importance to me, not who 'owns' a memorial. If I have made an error, please, please, let me know, politely. Cooperation is the entire point of this site. I now understand why people leave Findagrave.
I spend over half my time on Findagrave JUST sending edits to admin for duplicates, not documenting cemeteries any more. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE double check before you add a historical person from the 1600's or back. Nine times out of ten, they have already been added. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read the FAQ concerning BURIALS UNKNOWN. They are to be used for RECENT deaths only, not your 176th great grandfather whose burial is 'not located yet.'
Do not use my photos without permission, and ask BEFORE you use them. Simple, reasonable.
USE THE MEMORIAL EDIT/SUGGESTION OPTION ON THE MEMORIAL you want updated for updates requests, transfer requests, general inquiries ANY memorial. I will IGNORE AND DELETE suggestions, requests and updates and inquiries left HERE or in EMAIL, as they are REPEATEDLY, DESPITE THIS stupidly bold NOTICE.

|DR||RE: Nevada County Hospital Cemetery|
The records were derived from the source typically referenced in the bio area:
County Hospital Deaths 1859 - 1935
at the Doris Foley Library.
As it has been some time since I posted these, I cannot recall for sure, but believe that the library may have acquired the copy of this resource from the Cemetery District. That information may be noted within the source material at the library.
The name discrepancies may be due to my interpretation of the poor penmanship within the resource itself. If my memory serves the penmanship often left a lot to be desired.
The few later additions, I undoubtedly came across whilst researching something else in the newspaper. It is difficult to say which of the spellings might be correct, but perhaps you have a different version of this resource.
When I was originally adding these names back in 2012, I went to the Nevada Cemetery District office to inquire if they had something more pertaining to the numbers sometimes noted next to an individual's name. With the knowledge in mind that I had seen in the County Cemetery on Lewis Road, a few markers that still had a number attached. These numbers were undoubtedly used to trace the number back to a written record which denoted who had been buried under that number, by which they could then re-locate precisely where that person was buried.
Although they were very friendly at the cemetery office, they were unable to help me with that dilemma. As far as I recall, they didn't seem to have any knowlege about these numbers at that time.
I see that you've indicated plot numbers, and thereby suspect that the Cemetery District does have some information about these numbers.
Do you know if the Cemetery District has a plat map for this cemetery which might also reflect these same numbers? With the numbers now missing from the markers which still exist in the cemetery, the exact locations of those buried in this cemetery, and the one on Lewis Road, have been obliterated.
If you have a different copy of the records you obtained from the Cemetery District, could you please share a copy with the library? It may one day help someone who is looking for their ancestors.
Thank you for the update & for your postings to Findagrave

I agree. I try to look for edits pending every few days. I added the photo for Burnett who is buried at Pioneer. Thanks for all you do Anne!

I just got back from a camping trip to the coast. If you need me to take any photos for you, let me know.

Glad you were happy with the photo I'd posted. I've taken pictures of all the older stones at that cemetery and will get all loaded. Perhaps you'll see another person you'd be interested in. My dad's buried there so I'm in Middleboro every few weeks if I can help you find something.

|T Gilmore||Ricchard of York|
My apologies, now I've confused myself. Memorial #11543649 is on Richard Plantagenet of York, 1411-1460. This memorial was added in 2005.
Your Memorial #106879478, added March 2013, is on Richard Plantagenet of Conisbrough, 1385-1415--not Richard of York, his son.
To make it all the more confusing, Memorial #120504008 is also on Richard Plantagenet of Conisbrough, and this was added November 2013.
Again, I'm not sure which records were merged, but somehow something is amiss.
|T Gilmore||RE: Richard of York|
On Memorial #106879478, you have the name listed as Richard of York, 1385-1415. This should be Richard Plantagenet of Conisbrough, 3rd Earl of Cambridge. This individual married Anne Mortimer and Maud Clifford. His son by Anne Mortimer was known as Richard Plantagenet of York, 3rd Duke of York, 1411-1460. This Richard married Cecily Neville.
I received a message that this particular memorial had been merged with another. I am not sure if this was #11543649, also a memorial on Richard Plantagenet of Conisbrough, 3rd Earl of Cambridge, or #120504008, a memorial on Richard Plantagenet of York.
All I can tell is that these two Richards are showing as siblings in the relationships when they are, in fact, father and son.

Thank you for yet another gracious transfer; this time of my ancestor, Richard Baldwin. Thank you for taking care of this memorial until you felt it was the time to pass it along. I aspire to be more like your presence on findagrave.com.
|Julie H. Lake||Grandma Bruen|
Well, when you put it that way, I'd be happy to mind my 9th Great Grandma Mary Bruen, even though I have no idea what is involved in the role of memorial caretaker.
Glad you didn't try to pawn off my awful 17th GG Philipe Capet to me too; he'd be a handful. Looks like he's in the hands of The Authorities, now.
I haven't wanted to caretake any memorials because of the weird power struggles I've witnessed here. There seems to be some sort of contest going on that I don't know about, to see who can hoard the most ancestors and not share them, or something? Anyway, if there's a way for you to show me the list of memorials you've created, I'd be happy to take any of my relatives that might be on it off your hands. You are just lovely to want to send them "home' to family!
Please let me know if there's a way.
