THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY |
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hallowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Thank you for posting memorials at Homelani Memorial Park: Henry T. H. Young and of Mary E. Kelehiwa Young. I live in Virginia and appreciate being able to find memorials of relatives in Hawaii.
The Dora was for someone else. Sorry, I posted the comment to you accidentally. I will have to send them a message since I noticed it. Lol

You were so sweet when we got the last one for you that when I saw that you had more requests nearby I told my husband I was bound and determined to find them for you. :) You're very welcome, again.

I couldn't find your request but I did find a Dora born close to the same time but she had a different last name. I will post it and if it is incorrect you can delete it.

Hey Leilani! You are more than welcome! I am glad that I have been able to locate and fulfill some requests. To be able to assist in the search for ancestors or the honoring of people who have passed on is a blessing. Its a big cemetery and I am still working my way through each section but hopefully will be able to locate if not all, then the majority of the requests that have been made. Thanks!!

Your are more than welcome for the tombstone photo. I didn't directly seek out this tombstone to photograph for you. I spent several hours at Overholt Cemetery taking as many photos as I could. I have about 350 of them that I am in the process of posting.I haven't looked, but if you have more requests for photos from Overholt, I may have already taken them and will be posting them shortly.
