Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've enjoyed working on my family tree and helping others with their research for many years. I am a member of several genealogy organizations and the DAR. It's important to preserve the family history provided to us by cemeteries. Besides looking for my own family names, I also like to record military graves and the older headstones before they are no longer readable.

RE: Olcott Photo Request
Hi, Marte,

Thank you so very much for the marker photos for the Olcott family, and for posting memorials and photos for the rest of the Van Santvoord family in Albany Rural Cemetery. I had no idea where the rest of the family was buried, and to find so many of them through your efforts was fantastic! I really appreciate the time and effort you spent to get this family memorialized.

Thank you, again!

Take care.

Volkert Whitbeck- Butler Cem. Columbia Co NY
I was thrilled to see Volkert and mention of 3 of his children on Find A Grave Memorial# 3842280. I have some interesting - but sad information to add: NYG&BS 1896, "Graveyard Inscriptions"
"In memory Elizabeth, youngest d/o Volkert & Christina Whitbeck, who died Mar 13, 1832, by the destruction of the light house, aged 11 yr, 11 mon, 13 days
"In memory Harriet E. D/o Volkert and Cristine who died mar 13, 1832 by the destruction of the light house, aged 13 yrs, 7 mon.
The Government light house was swept away by the ice at time of Spring breakup Mar 1832.
Thanks for all your dedicated work and help for us far away.

parents of Harriet VanValkenburgh
Hi Marte:

I am helping a friend, who descends from Harriet and Nelson VanValkenburg, apply for membership in DAR. I have undocumented information that Harriet's grandfather was John T. Reynolds, a proven DAR patriot of the Revolutionary War, and that her parents were John Reynolds and Hannah Moore Reynolds. I cannot find an obituary or a Death Certificate for her which might name her parents. Do you have any information that might help?

Tallmadges-Marshalls @ Albany Rural Cemetery
Dear Marte,

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting the tombstone photos of my cousin Josiah Tallmadge Sr., his wife Grace (nee Marshall) Tallmadge, and his in-laws William, Mary, Laura, and Eliza Marshall for my family and me! Also, for your note posted to my Find A Grave homepage telling me that you had fulfilled my requests.

Would you be able to tell me if your copy of William and Mary Marshall's tombstone better shows William's birth and/or death dates? The tombstone is badly degraded and covered in lichen. I can't quite make out the dates inscribed (the days look like they might be "3" and "15" but the months and years seem illegible). I know he was born between 1823 and 1825 per federal and state censuses and that he died sometime after the 1870 US Federal Census (taken 07 JUL 1870; his last enumeration) and before the 1875 NY state census (taken 01 JUN 1875; only widow Mary and unmarried daughters Laura and Eliza are enumerated). Anything you can share with me would be greatly appreciated.

Helping those who live so far away from their deceased ancestors and relatives is not only a selfless act of kindness on your part, it is also a cherished and priceless gift that you give to us.

May God bless you and yours in all your endeavors!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Gravestone Photo Permission
I am happy to see that you photographed the gravestone of William Alvord in Albany Rural Cemetery (Memorial# 50914044).

I would like to add this gravestone photo to the (non-profit) Alford American Family Association's collection of New York Obituaries, where his obituary is (or will be) included. You can see the current collection at http://www.alfordassociation.org/OBITS/NYOBIT.htm.

May I have your permission to include your gravestone photos? If so, the photo caption will say:

Photo from [cemetery name, city, county, state]—www.findagrave.com
Permission granted by the photographer, Martje [or your full name if you prefer]

And thanks so much for your gravestone photo work!

Best regards,
Pamela Alford Thompson (Find A Grave #47195155)
