An explanation for some of the causes of death:

Bright's Disease - Any of several forms of disease of the kidney attended with albumin in the urine, including especially acute and chronic nonsuppurative nephritis.

Catarrh of Brain/ Catarrh of Head/ Catarrh of Stomach/ Catarrh on the Breast/ Catarrk Pneumonia) - An inflammatory affection of any mucous membrane, in which there are congestion, swelling, and an alteration in the quantity and quality of mucous secreted. In America, especially, a chronic inflammation of, and hypersecretion from the membranes of nose or air passages. Also an acute influenza, resulting from a cold and attended with cough, thirst, lassitude and watery eyes; also, the cold itself. Catarrh Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung tissue associated with catarrh and with marked evidences of inflammation of the bronchial membranes - often chronic.

Scarlet fever is a childhood disease. It is a bacterial infection caused by specific bacteria and found in about 10 percent of persons with strep throat. Symptoms include high fever, a strawberry like tongue, and body rash. It can be prevented by habits of cleanliness - like hand washing.

RE: Hans Haggardt
I hope you find his obit. I have been somewhat confused by the many interrelationships within those early Rutland/Humboldt area Danes. Apparently my great-grandaunt came to the United States with her sister (my great-grandmother) Marie. What the story doesn't tell me is if they came to America as two single women, or if Katherine married to her second husband in Denmark, and then the three of them came to the US. the family history for that side of my family does not have Katherine's obituary.

Ira Wood
The only Ira Wood they have was born and died in 1924. Your Ira died in Maricopa Co. So unless she had family in Casa Grand it's possible she's buried in the Phoenix area. There may be a Mtn. View Cemetery there, which is about 60-80 miles to the north. Sorry I could not work it out for you.

Her brother Charley is my wife's great-grandfather.

I appreciate and am impressed by your quick action on the edits, and I see the other member's duplicate record has been removed already.

Thanks --

Thaddeus Howe - Highwood Cemetery
Hi,

I went out to the cemetery today and unfortunately Thaddeus Howe does not have a stone on his grave. Would you like a plot photo of the area where his grave is?

re: The Danes of Rutland
I just found it interesting that the article referred to the church in Rutland (and how many churches could there have been in Rutland at any time) as Baptist. I feel very strongly that at least at the time when my grandfather and his siblings were baptized there, this church was by its own accord, a Danish Methodist Church.

Good to hear your Danish non-Lutheran story: more data to confuse a certain 'scholar' with (shame on me).

Oh, okay. She's a stepsister to the half-brothers and half-sisters of my great-grandfather's, so kind of a collateral relative, but it's nice to have a complete history. Thank you!

You are very prompt! Thank you for working on the Wood memorials so quickly -- and the information you have provided concerning their deaths was very helpful. One more fact: there was a 4th child -- Ira A Wood, born 07 Sep 1890; died Oct 1966. He was "boarding" with the Elias P. Huffman family in Avery Township, Humboldt County, Iowa in 1900. (If I find a Find-a-Grave Memorial for him and sister Ruby, I will be sure to suggest an edit to completely reunite this family.)
