Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

William H Cubley
I was wondering what sources there are for Wm's birth and parents?

I have him born 13 Oct 1829 in Woodstock, Windsor, VT, s. of William Cubley and Weathy Smith (d. of Deacon Hart Smith and Wealthy Kinney of Windsor, VT. According to VT. Vital Records, 1720-1908, Hart Smith m. Wealthy Kinney on 6 Jun 1826 in Windsor, VT. They had a son, William Hart Smith, the one born 1829.

Hart Smith d. 31 Aug 1837 in Woodstock, Windsor, VT and the 1870 US census has Wealthy Cubley living with her son, William H (Hart) Smith in Massena, St. Lawrence, NY with his wife, Martha, and his first 3 children. Wealthy died abt 1881 in Massena. Her maternal grandfather (her mother Wealthy's father) was Col Joseph Kinney, b. 17 Feb 1717 Preston, New London, CT, m. her mother, Mrs. Jemina (Newcomb) Lamb, w. of Jonathan Lamb of Norwich)on 12 Jun 1755 Norwich, New London, CT. He died. 15 Oct 1793 Thetford, Orange, VT and she died 19 Jun 1794, same place.

It appears that William's gravestone on FindAGrave is somewhat new. Do you think the family replaced an old one and didn't know the proper birth date and genealogy?

Thanks for the transfer of Josephine Guyette and Francis Fayette, her husband and my gr uncle. Much appreciated.
I once was in contact with their daughter, Velma, and sent her a picture of me. Her daughter saw the picture and asked how I had gotten a picture of her (Velma). Velma responded with it's not me, it's her.

This impels me to try to find Velma again.
Again, thank you so much.

John St. Mitchell
Do you know if the family shortened the name to just Mitchell? I'm looking for John Mitchell died Nov. 26,1906 and his wife went by Ellen Kirkey Lavine Mitchell, but I have seen her name as Adaline, she died Apr. 9, 1908. Do I have the right people? LeAnn

RE: Agnes Hallihan
Thank you for the information. I was photographing graves and the grounds keeper suggested that I use a low bleach to water solution on the gravestones. I had no idea it could cause harm. Thanks for all you do. Pat
