Bio and Links
Bio Photo I know it is important and vital to record accurately the historical aspects of a persons life, including their final resting place. This, my father inspired me to do as a kid, when he would take me with him to visit family graves. He would tidy them up, like,, actually cut the grass. I remember the cemetary where his father was sometimes was overgrown. I liked to clean up those graves with him and those memories are deeply a part of me.

My X's are from NW Florida. Through FAG and I have been able to see the final resting places of many, many of my mom's side ancestors, going back to early 1800's. Americans of Scottish, Irish, Cherokee, Creek, English, French descent, migrating from New York and Carolinas to Georgia and Alabama, all eventually making their way to NW FL.

My Y's are from Roccabascerana, in the Province of Avellino, Campania, Italy, about 30 miles east of Naples. There is a large residence called "Case (House of) Ragucci" within Avellino. House of Ragucci. My grandparent's immigration states Roccabascerana as origin.

My Aunt, my mom's sister, who I never met, Margaret Ann Williamson, who died before I was born, but I feel a connection to her

Your Italian ancestors
Hi Mario,

I haven't spoken to you in awhile and wanted to drop by to say hi. Have you made any progress with your Italian ancestors? I strongly believe that your father's ancestors are linked to the same Y's in the town that I sent you photos of. The two towns are only 4 minutes apart. You can email me at

Hope all is well,

RE: Thank you for the very kind words
No problem ! It's my pleasure to leave flowers for these legends. And yes I think I read somewhere that John was Kurt's idol. It's a great connection.

RE: Thank you for the memories
Mario, we still follow that custom in my family. We go to an Italian bakery and bring pastries or cookies when visiting during a holiday or special occasion. I like this very much. It shows thoughtfulness.

RE: Yes I remember the Easter Pies
In all honesty Mario, the home made wheat pies are far superior. Even one that turns out "mezza-mezza" (so-so) beats the store bought one.

The same goes for struffoli (the little honey balls) so loved at Italian-American dinners during Christmas.

And don't get me started on the home made liqueurs. Grandma Josie had a paesana who made my parents a bottle of Strega as a wedding present. As a child my Mom used it as a medicine, too. If I had a cold I got a tablespoonful. It warmed me up and knocked me out. The bottle was a work of art inside. The paesana had put rock crystal candy as a sweetener and a slender piece of some branch or stalk from an herb that lended a flavor to the Strega. In the golden liquid those rock candies and branch looked like a magical tree.

Will we ever have people like this again? Hard working, humble, strong and creative, too.

RE: Congratulations during this
Yes, Mario the snow is all gone. It's still chilly here in Bay Ridge. We're close to the Narrows, that's why. Now we have Spring rains. Little by little the flowers are blooming. If I could I'd send you an old fashioned Italian wheat pie from Brooklyn. Not as wonderful as Grandma Josie's but the bakeries here do a farily good job with it.
