Bio Photo The living come with grassy tread
To read the gravestones on the hill;
The graveyard draws the living still,
But never anymore the dead.
The verses in it say and say:
"The ones who living come today
To read the stones and go away
Tomorrow dead will come to stay."
So sure of death the marbles rhyme,
Yet can't help marking all the time
How no one dead will seem to come.
What is it men are shrinking from?
It would be easy to be clever
And tell the stones: Men hate to die
And have stopped dying now forever.
I think they would believe the lie.

Per your message below. I was just letting you know that you had created a duplicate.

Normally I would delete duplicate, this is my grandfather, and I have all his links in place.

The words are not available for me to express the gratitude for the efforts you've made to expose the sunken/lost stones for those once buried in this old cemetery. Now that you've documented those names/dates, eventually there will be one of the few that are actually interested in seeking their relatives (those who made it possible for us to be here today).

I have done the same thing here in southwest Louisiana, and had a rare handful of them to contact me to show their gratitude. They had no idea where they had ever been buried, but can now see a very old stone. My relatives (back to my 6th & 7th great grandfather) first settled in North Carolina after they had come from England. So with gratitude, I say Thank You, ever so much. Charles T. Baggett

Thank you so much for researching and posting this cemetery. After years of living within a couple miles of it, it was wonderful to discover it on Find A Grave. I never knew anyone had researched it and was planning on this to be my winter project. My one relative buried here was an infant with no known marker and I hate to think this beautiful old place is almost forgotten. Thank you again for your hard work and time.
