Thanks for visiting my bio!
Also many warm thanks to all the wonderful people who left flowers, candles or other tokens!
My life motto is: "There are no coincidencies, everything has its purpose and all things happen at the right time."
If you find any errors or incomplete birth and death dates in my postings, please, contact me through the EDIT-button at the right top of the site. I'd be happy to make the corrections and additions.
The photos I've added are either public domain or taken by me.
Please! Do not add any photos from other sites to my entries unless you've taken them yourself or you have the photographer's permission to publish them. I would really appreciate it.
They say there are no coincidencies in this world and it certainly proved true, when I googled Maira one day. One of the search results offered an option: Maera. In Greek mythology, Maera was the hound of Icarus, father of Erigone.
According to the myth:
"Icarus was a follower of wine god Dionysus and had been taught how to make wine. While travelling, Icarus met some drunken shepherds, who killed him. After getting sober next day the shepherds understood what they had done and buried Icarus' body. Erigone was worried about her father, and set off with her dog Maera to find him. Maera at last discovered his grave, and both became so overwhelmed with grief that Erigone hanged herself and Maera leapt off a cliff. According to the Greek poet Nonnos, Maera declined to leave the grave and was starved to death. Upon hearing the news, Dionysus placed them in the sky as the constellations of Virgo (Erigone), Boëtes (Icarus) and the dog star, Sirius (Maera)."
In the remembrance of Maera, the eternally devoted dog, I'll do my best posting photographs of as many gravestones as possible in the Kanta-Häme area in the Southern Province of Finland.

|Ann||Frans Teofil Hiivanainen|
You created a memorial for Frans # 125425331. You show that he was an artist. Do you know anything about him?
Let me explain. I have a portrait that was painted by him. It is signed F. Hiivanainen 1906.
My grandparents were Finnish, lived in Sweden before immigrating to Astoria, Oregon, USA.
Unfortunately, I don't know who is in the portrait. My grandfather died in 1903.
Maira, I know that my question is a bit unusual.
Thank you for any information that you can provide.

|Hilary Taylor||Mikael lundstrom|
Hello Maira, So much information on Mikael and so quick. I fear this is not my Mikael. My Mikael had 2 boys( maybe more) and a daughter.
John Frithiof lundstrom b, 1854
August Lundstrom b. 1857
Matilda lundstrom, possibly John and Matilda were twins.
John F. and August went to live and work in Liverpool. Both were sailors going to New York and Quebec. John moved on to New York and August lived and worked in Liverpool with his own family. I think John Frithiof also lived for a time in Kronstadt, Russia, again sailing.
On the link below, I found ships they had sailed on, their signatures, dates of birth and where they were born: Vasa, Finland.

Hello there, I am looking for information on Mikael, I only know he was buried at sea. He had two sons living in Liverpool, England. Mikael died 1878 - where i don't know. If anyone knows anything about him, i would love to hear from you.
|Brett Stark||Emil and Adina Stark|
I am trying to find out who is Emil's father. He was born in Bergo and died there and is buried with his wife Adina( one of the gravestones you found). I have a ship record that has Emil traveling in 1909 with 2 other Starks and all were around 19-24 years old( brothers? cousins?). Anyway, on the ship record, it lists what appears to be Anna Berta, but I think it is really Anna "Beata" Mattsdotter Stark which is also one of the gravestones you have on the Find a Grave site. How could I find the marriage info on Anna Beata Mattsdotter Stark and see who their children were? Do you have anything linking Anna Beata Mattsdotter Stark with her son Emil and mentioning a husband ofb Anna Beata Mattsdottter Stark ? Maybe even a gravestone ? Any suggestions?

Kiitos!

|Jim-S.||Find A Grave Correction: Eino Juutilainen|
Hello Maira - Thanks for all the information, including his cemetery, which is now added. I just happened to come across one of the KoMC honorees while looking for other MIA/KIA WW II soldiers from my country. I saw some of the Fins didn't have memorial pages yet and have added a few. Glad to help - Jim.

|Jim-S.||Knight of Mannerheim Cross awardee Eino Ilmari Juutilainen|
Hello Maria - Thanks for all you do for Find-A-Grave and for honoring some of the Knight of Mannerheim Cross awardees. I just added a memorial page for Air Force Fighter pilot Ace and two time Knight of Mannerheim Cross awardee Eino Ilmari Juutilainen but I don't know where he is buried.
His brother Aarne is buried at Malmi Cemetery and I was wondering if they are buried in the same cemetery. Can you help me? Thanks in advance for your help, Jim-S.

In my search, I found someone has placed some incorrect information in our genealogy records, there a Cornelius Zitting that is showing he was born in Hannover, Prussia when in fact all our family records show proof of him being born in Friesland, Germany
