I am a great great great granddaughter of John and Rebecca (Baltzell) Burkhart who arrived at what is now Albany, OR in 1847. One of their sons, Leander Columbus Burkhart, was married to Melissa Ann Davidson of the Hezekiah & Melissa Davidson family of Polk County. They had also come to Oregon in 1847. Leander & Melissa had a daughter, Nellie Olivia Burkhart, who married & had a daughter named Pearl Laura Baker. Pearl fell in love with Harry Hoyt Taylor, a school mate. It was a match made in Heaven. They married & had 2 daughters. The younger one, Patricia, was my mother. She is buried with her parents at the Multnomah Park Pioneer Cemetery in Portland, OR. I live in Portland, Oregon with my sister, and black cat, Shadow. I have an older sister living in Portland. My only son lives in SW Washington. I also have a married niece & married nephew living in the area & a niece, sister & brother-in-law living in California. I have been creating my Family Tree since mid-Oct. 2010; little did I know what I was getting in to. I was able to use many of my mother's old records from the 1960s-1980s, but have been so thankful for the age of computers & also for "Find A Grave", which has helped me sort out so many of my Burkhart, Ellis, Baltzell, Taylor, & Davidson relatives on my mother's side, many in Oregon, and my Webb, Gatlin, Warters, Uzzell & Lassiter relatives as well as all of the people they married on my father's side, many in Georgia & the Carolinas, and my son's father's family. I truly appreciate all of the time and effort all of you have spent creating this site; it's right up my alley as I enjoy sorting things out & solving puzzles, putting things in order, etc. I was a Social Services Worker for many yrs., but had to retire due to severe migraines; I now have problems with Reynaud's making my hands cold, pretty severe arthritis so I need to have both knees replaced & a right ankle I sprained for the 6th time just Jan 2014. I've been told I have no tendons left which all explains why I am not as mobile as I used to be (and miss it!). I was hoping to get new knees two years ago in 2012, just in time for my 61st birthday, but some other issues arose, including back problems; steroid injections will help, soon, I hope. I've not been able to spend as much time on my family tree & memorials as I'd like, need about a week non stop to catch up. Thank you to all who kept my sister, Nancy, in their prayers. Her back surgery in early Sept 2014 was the best of any of the eight (yes, I said eight!) surgeries she has had. Her Dr. is great & everyone at St. Vincent's Hospital was wonderful & very caring. She is recovering much better than she ever has before and is an inch taller than in August, which is only right. In the mean time, I spend what time I can doing research & rediscovering my ancestors who came to Oregon (stopping along the way in VA., TN., MO., ILL., Iowa, TX & CA) in 1847 (and other years) settling portions of the Willamette Valley, Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon & other places in the Pacific Northwest. I am finding, via Find A Grave, many more cousins throughout the United States, however, which is really exciting. I have found Jewish heritage under names of Burkhardt, Mayer, Freiburger & Huepfer going way back (to the mid 1600's) to when some family left Germany and ended up in Johnson Co., Georgia, America, among other places. I wish I knew more and will keep looking. My DNA shows that I am even part Greek, which leaves me completely lost as I haven't found the connection yet. In case you can't tell, I do tend to get side tracked frequently, especially when it comes to the graves of "little ones", Veterans & others without any flowers, & will leave flowers or an Angel for them, especially if they have none there, which I find incredibly sad. I ran into a Vietnam Vet at a grocery store Summer 2012, who rides at funerals (The Patriot Guard). I actually was brave enough to go up to him and thank him & shake his hand; I told him about Find A Grave & gave him the web site address. I hope he looked us up! Thanks to all of you so much for all of your help as I am only human, am just striving to be better, One Day at a Time. When my computer was hacked July 2011, I missed Find A Grave the most! I still miss my son who I haven't heard from since April. I love talking with my dad, who is a World War II vet, & is now 90, every week. I am so grateful he is still around. I have also heard from relatives whose family came to Oregon about the same time mine did and they settled not too far from where my family did. Talk About A Small World! May God take care of everyone. You are some very special people, as if you didn't know! I also use familysearch.org site which can be very helpful..**Spend time with your loved ones while you have them. I have heard from my sponsor of almost 35 years who has been severely disabled with a broken tailbone. I am so grateful to God. My knee, ankle, back & foot problems continue to plague me to the extent that I had a cortisone injection in each knee on Oct 1st, 2013 as I'd been bedridden, and it helped. I am also now getting cortisone shots in my back due to ruptured discs, etc. I am totally frustrated, not always following my doctor's orders, but trying to. My gmail.com address has worked out much better although I am checking yahoo about once a month to deal with causes I believe in. Please continue to use my gmail address from now on. Thank you so very much. Take care and stay safe, preferably with someone you care about. Winter is on it's way, again, as the leaves have started to turn, rain is back & the nights are longer. My Shadow cat was badly hurt a few months back, in terrible back pain like nothing I'd seen other than when a cat was run over. I am so grateful to Dr. Chris at Gresham Animal Hospital for helping me to help her. She is purring again and using a cat carrier to help her reach my bed so we can snuggle and I can pet her front (not her back!) and sing little kitty songs to her; she's so sweet, was 14 yrs. old in April, and her whiskers turned white a couple of years ago. I don't know what I'd have done if I'd lost her. I've been abstaining so I can get my knees replaced and possibly my right ankle. My favorite binge food, chocolate, now gives me terrible migraines. Is that ironic or what? God's idea of a good joke, I'm sure. But, One Day at A Time, by the grace of God, as I understand Him, I'm gonna do this. |
With All Sincerity,

|Traci's Mom||Traci Fields|
Kathie, thank you so much for your very kind words. I will pass your comments about the video to Traci's brother, Chuck. I, too, think he did a great job.
Because of you and other wonderful findagrave friends, Traci now has 5,260 flowers/tokens, and her birthday is a little over a week away. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We appreciate you all so much.
I'm in awe! To show you more of what Traci was like, I posted the following on her memorial page,
"Traci, my angel, I can see the big grin on your face for all the flowers you're receiving on your memorial page. You're telling me, "Mom, why are you so surprised there are so many good people in this world? You should have known that....." "You're right, sweetheart, I should have known".
Traci was a person of strong faith, and GOD took excellent care of her, and helped her through all her hardships! Her faith never waivered.
GOD, bless them all, and thank you for your wonderful gift of Traci.
We've received an outpouring of so much love for Traci. I will try to get to everyone's site and leave a flower/token for at least one of their loved ones. However, there are so many of you, it will take me a while.
Sharon (Traci's mom)
Thanks for the edits.
Percy and the Smiths are ancestors of my wife. I was looking into her side at the request of my wife's grandmother, who was looking for HER grandmother's burial site... then started looking up and linking together that part of the family.
|Traci's Mom||Token you left for Traci Fields|
Kathie, thank you very much for the token you left for my angel, Traci. You are certainly helping reach my goal of 5,000 tokens by her birthday, November 20th.
I so appreciate the loving, moving tribute you left for my baby girl. It brought tears to my eyes that you would be so caring about someone you never even knew.
I appreciate you so much. You are a blessing to me.
Thank you again.
Sharon (Traci's mom)

I am the gg granddaughter of Annie Coffee Rice buried Oakland Cem in Marshall Co OK who married gg grandfather Robert C Rice. Where did you get the info that she was born in Tennessee? All census and other info I have show she was born in Alabama.
|Ellen||RE: Gardell Franklin Gay|
First, thank you for your expressions of sympathy and for your prayers.
I'm having a very difficult time reading through the lengthy one-paragraph letter you left as a public message. And, since the letter doesn't include a link to the relevant memorials(s) or any of our previous correspondence, I don't know--and cannot easily determine--what you're talking about.
Please follow the site's rules and send any and all suggestions via a memorial's Edit tab, NOT by way of public messages; I've requested that contributors also send sources and any correspondence (divided into paragraphs, please) about memorials via the Edit tab. Use the "Suggest Another Correction" option. If we've had previous correspondence about a memorial, please copy and paste that into the SAC.

|Lorene Conn-Roth||Marian Chaffin|
I was reading your comments on Marian Chaffin and wanted to let you that Bert passed on 10/17/2014. You can find his obituary on columbiafh.com I was one of his students back in the late 60's and remember seeing him and his wife together. Sucks seeing all these people we looked up to for so many years gone. But they are not forgotten.
|Mawahlquist||Martha S. T. Read Diary|
Dear Kathy, I am so glad you enjoyed reading Martha's overland trip diary. It is an amazing window into the past and into a time much more difficult physically than ours is, in just about every way thinkable!
When we travel I-84 I too think of those pioneers and how they had to get their wagons up and down those hills and mountains, while we are simply zipping along at speeds unimaginable to them. Have you stopped and seen any of the Oregon Trail exhibits at any of the rest stops? They are most interesting, especially the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center at Baker. You can see the wheels ruts still in the hillsides and then as you travel the freeway, you can spot them here and there along the way.
Take care, Marci
|Peggy Frost||RE: Edward C. & Lulu E. Viereck|
Hi Kathie, Edward's wife, Lulu Edith Hall, was my husband's Grand Aunt - one of her sister's was my husband's Grandmother.
I don't really have much information at all on Edward - I wasn't even aware that he was a doctor - but I do know he was in the US Navy. To my knowledge, Edith (Lulu went by her middle name) was never in the military and I suspect that she just happened to own a Navy blouse.
No, I don't mind at all that you're doing research on the family. Are you related?
|Connie WEEAKS Pace||RE: Andrew Westbrook|
Kathie, thanks for all your help. I appreciate it. Connie
|jeane marshall||RE: Mary Elizabeth Hagedorn Chamberlain|
No upset here---actually wanted to thank you for the flowers and the thoughtfulness---we believed that Mariah had died in Los Angeles, CA---Makes sense that she was buried near her Cleveland "home" and son. Thank you again for your endeavors. We are having a problem with her mother's maiden name---Perry or Petty? does the cemetery have death certificate information? ---memorial #57759813
