I'm retired US Navy. I've been doing genealogy since about 1991. Like many genealogists I enjoy walking through old cemeteries and wondering about the lives of those who are laid to rest below my feet.
Contact me, VIA THE EDIT TAB on a memorial,
if I have entered info of a friend or loved one and there is an error to be fixed or additions to be made. I welcome a POLITE request for changes, corrections, etc.
PLEASE USE THE TAB on the specific memorial to send or suggest corrections or ask questions. DEMANDS OR RUDENESS WILL BE IGNORED.
REMEMBER THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY REASON FOR RUDENESS OR TELLING EACH OTHER HOW TO DO THEIR JOB! Politeness goes much further.
Thank you,
Doug | |

 | RE: Jines family of Dahlgren I'm not directly related to the Jines family. I'm related to the Lowry family in Dahlgren. My 3 great grand Aunt Mary Lowry married Gabriel Jines. So I have done some research in Dahlgren and neighboring Counties in Illinois in regards to the Lowrys. | | | Becky and Ken Dalton
 | RE: Gooch headstone Would be interested to see how it relates to the cemetery. We are located in southern Person county, and the family home is near the cemetery. I don't think he is buried here, however...he was a generation back from those buried here. Would think he might be in Caswell county....what do you think? Keep having fun Becky Dalton | | | Rhiannan
 | Embree pictures Hi! I recently took pictures for you of Effingham Embree and family. On the monument there are four sides, I did take pictures of all four sides if you'd like I can email or post them for you. Fairview cemetery is not that big - I think the Embree family plot is one of the biggest I've seen there!!Added by Rhiannan on Apr 05, 2013 10:38 AM | | | Grave Recorder
 | Mollenbrink Hi. I will be going to Mount Olive cemetery over the next 3 or 4 weeks (weather permitting and when all the snow finally begins to melt) to take photos of my relatives grave sites and I saw you had a request(s). If you would call the cemetery office (number on the front page of the cemetery page) and get the location of the burial, I will try to get the photo request for you while I am there. Just add it to your memorial in the plot section. They are very helpful at the office. Kathy | | | Jessi-Schnittchen

 | James Petticrew HI, Do you have family tree for James Petticrew? My 3 Greatgrandmother was Rosanna Petticrew, born in Ohio 1818 or 1819 .I do not know if James and Elizabeth Haines are her parent ? Or Rosanna maybe the last child born to John Finley Petticrew and Elizabeth Hamilton ? Rosanna married Andrew Jackson True near Niles Michigan.
Any information would be great appreciation. Thanks ..SharonAdded by Sharon on Feb 03, 2013 10:37 AM | | | USA Grannie
 | Vernon & Matthew Bonner I knew them both, Matthew was one of my favorite kids, thank you
Thank you for this memorial of my old friend Vernon. I had lost track of him and his family many years ago. Then tonight after a google search I find him and his son, Matthew, here on F A G. Both men were beacons for the Lord.

 | RE: Cy Embree I have added Cy Embree to the 40th Iowa Infantry Regiment virtual cemetery as you requested. However, I would caution identifying his unknown grave site as being in Memphis National Cemetery. Prior to the creation of Memphis N.C. (first known as Mississippi River N.C.), hundreds of unknown Union causualties were being buried in Vicksburg N.C. - PARTICULARLY Iowa Union soldiers - which is the final resting place for the greatest number of unknown Union soldiers in the country. Vicksburg has scores of Union soldiers (identified and unknown) who died in Memphis and the surrounding area.
Just as a suggestion, I would list Cy Embree's grave site as unknown, but mention in his bio that he could be buried in either Vicksburg or Memphis N.C.
Thanks again for the information on Cy Embree. If you know of other Iowa Civil War soldier burial sites, please let me know.

 | RE: William & Sarah Scruggs William was the brother of my 3 gr-grandfather. He and Sarah had no children, but they raised several of their nieces and nephews, including my gr-gr-grandfather. Sarah was his second wife. He was a large land and slave owner. I grew up on part of his land. My grandmother lived in his house and we all played on their box tombstones. | | | | [View all messages...] |
