THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN Today we walked where others walked On a lonely, windswept hill; Today we talked where others cried For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled. Today our hearts were touched By graves of tiny babies; Snatched from the arms of loving kin, In the heartbreak of the ages. Today we saw where the grandparents lay In the last sleep of their time; Lying under the trees and clouds - Their beds kissed by the sun and wind. Today we wondered about an unmarked spot; Who lies beneath this hallowed ground? Was it a babe, child, young or old? No indication could be found. Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay. We had been here once before On a day we'd all like to forget, But will remember forever more. Today we recorded for kith and kin The graves of ancestors past; To be preserved for generations hence, A record we hope will last. Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend, For stones sometimes crumble to dust And generations of folks yet to come Will be grateful for your trust.
I just posted pages for Harry & Harriet... transferred Harry to you because I saw that you had posted a page for another person with that same last name so Iʻm thinking Harry is ʻohana... is Harriet your ʻohana, too? They are buried right next to each other... so sad to lose babies... if she is ʻohana I will transfer to you... let me know...
RE: Tombstone pics Yes, be my guest; use my photos as you see fit. I post 'em to be used, and identifying me as the photographer - one way or the other - isn't a concern. I just wish they could have all been masterpieces, but that's certainly not the case.
By the way, I haven't seen Edward Kau at Makiki, but I'll keep looking as I continue photographing there. David.
photos! Aloha Leilani!! You are more than welcome to use photos I take anywhere at any time for anything you want. No need to even give me credit unless it is something you personally want to do. I like to keep information like that, but at the same time I have always felt that family information and photos and is meant to be shared rather than stored, and quite frankly I don't mind if I never get the credit, as long as it is shared with as many people as possible who are part of the family of the deceased person. 😊 Malama pono, and good luck on your compilation project! I'm sure it will be a beautiful treasure!!!
My brother was buried in that year and there is no grave marker. There was a plastic name plaque initially, but that has been missing for so long that my mother has forgotten the exact location. I think that there are records of Puea Cemetery burials somewhere. His obituary shows that Rev. Franco Manuel officiated the services. Maybe the burial location records are at the church where that Reverend was from. There were many burials that year and I thought by leaving this message that someone could provide any information about this. We want to place a marker.
I hope this finds you well. Just sent you a plot edit for Tutu Kawenaʻs gravesite. Also noticed that there are 2 other memorial pages listed for her, both by the same member, but posted in 2014... yourʻs was in 2011... you might know about this but he really should delete his pages... will let you take the lead on this one... have a great week!
