|Twenty-five years ago a friend told me she had a new hobby, genealogy, and how much fun she was having. I immediately contacted my mother who informed me that we owned three family Bibles. I have been deep into this ever since. I started with my mother's family in Loudoun County, VA. Her parents were third cousins, a fact she did not know. Of course I added my father's family, my husband's family, and both my daughter-in-law's and son-in-law's families. Then by adding wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, ancestors, descendants, I have ended up with a database of about 37,000. All are related to me or to someone I am related to. |
Most of my time has been spent in Loudoun County, Virginia. I wrote two books on Union Cemetery in Leesburg, a book on Monocacy Cemetery in Bealsville, Montgomery County, MD, Death Records of Fairfax County, VA, and co-authored books on the Death Records of Loudoun County, VA and Marriages after 1850 in Loudoun County, Va. I have also been involved in the preparation of Cemetery Books published by Thomas Balch Library. All of these books are available through Heritage Books.
I am more than happy to share any information I have. My cemetery pictures are there for anyone who needs them. They have been taken over the last 19 years. I will ask that you let me know if you are using a family picture because that means you are probably at least a cousin and I want to know you.
If you see errors, please let me know. Let's get all these people linked! But PLEASE everyone, use the Edit button on the memorial that needs changing! It takes about 2 minutes to make changes using that button. It can take 1/2 an hour or more to find the memorial you would like changed, if you don't use that button, and often I cannot be sure if I am looking at the correct person even then. In that case I may spend an hour or more looking. That takes away from someone else's time. Be fair!

We've emailed back and forth. I would greatly appreciate it if you would release or transfer my Great, great grandfather to me. I realized I never asked and I would like to maintain his memorial.
Hope all is well. Thank you,

Best way to really be sure is to call (or write) each of the two cemteries asking IF he's buried there (or was moved there).
Story -- I have a dear uncle who was married to my dad's sister = Uncle Pete. Auntie, his wife, was racked with pain and health problems...she passed away a while ago while I was still a wife & young mom. (My daughters are in their 50's.)
Uncle Pete did the usual thing...double stone with Auntie's side filled in and his side with name & birth info.
Uncle Pete many years later, dated & married a lady named Ruth (the second for each one). Before either one passed, Ruth and Uncle Pete decided that they wanted to lay next to each other. Now Uncle Pete's name is in two cemeteries with his dead wife's (Ruth on one and Auntie on the other) name on each stone with his also there!
I have strongly suggested to my cousin (his only child) that something should be added to his parents' stone to show that he is NOT buried there. (Still waiting!)
People assume that because Uncle Pete is old enough to have already died....that he's buried with Auntie...NOPE!
END OF STORY...try to sort it out with your kin. Good Luck.

Thanks for creating memorials for my father, George G. Doherty #142267523, and my brother, Francis J. Doherty #142267541, who are buried together at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. Subsequent to your efforts, my mother, Ellen Doherty, passed away and was buried in the same plot. I've just created a memorial for her and linked it to my father's and my brother's memorials. If you don't mind, I would like to be able to manage my father's and brother's memorials as well. Thank you for your consideration of this request. Dennis Doherty #48873037
