I have long, long connections with Wilkes County, NC. I grew up in upper Virginia, the D.C. area to be exact, and would visit here from time to time with my dad, who was born in Wilkes County. In 1967, we moved to CA and I married in 1970 and moved to Oregon where I lived until 2000. At that time, I moved back to CA to help with my parents. Each year, we would visit during late September/early October for family reunions and about two years ago, daddy and mother were getting tired of things in CA in the Bay Area and started thinking about moving. We looked at property in Wilkes County and last September found the home we now live in. We moved from CA to "home" and the moving van pulled up on Dec. 26 of 2007 and in we moved! We are glad to be home among family and friends and while I have never lived here before, it feels like home since my roots go back to the 1770's here and I feel like I know all there is to know about Wilkes (which, I'm sure, is not true!) But, here I am and since I am caregiver for my 90-year old dad and 85-year old mother, (who has since passed away on June 11 2009), I don't work and have some free time on my hands. I am going to attempt to photograph Wilkes County cemeteries over time and since findagrave was so helpful to me, I am happy to be able to add to the lists. I am willing to help with questions and answers about Wilkes cemeteries and history, but cannot guarantee I will do it in "your time". lol I love this website and appreciate all the great contributors.

Sarah Jane Lipford

Her first marriage was to Edmund Dunn.
He does not have a headstone. I find this sad. If I understand this correctly, he established Dunkirk Methodist Church, Wilkes County, NC Please just state for now who her first marriage was to. I left the marriage bond on her memorial. Her second husband was to Mr. Hamby.
I hope I am correct in this. Edmund Dunn served in the War of 1812. Sarah drew a pension from him.

Thanks Much.

Just FYI - There is a conflict that I don't find a resolution to in the birthdate. Colleen Susan Crisp, daughter of Henry Crisp and Essie Conn is 2 years old on the 1910 census for that family and 11 years old in 1920, 32 years old in 1940. This is in contrast to both this record and a Kentucky birth record.

Sorry, hit enter too soon.

I came across this memorial and wanted to point out that your note is slightly wrong. While Charity L.Adams' father was John Henry Adams her mother wasn't Sarah Adams but Sarah Caroline Hincher.

The confusion is that this John Henry was the son of William Vickery Adams and Charity Jennings while he had a 1st cousin once removed named John Henry (about the same age and born in Wilkes) who was the son of Calvin Hayes Adams. He married Sallie Adams in Johnson County, Missouri in 1874. She was a 2d cousin and the daughter of George and Sena (Egbert) Adams.

My name is Kenneth R. Morton. Robert Henry Morton is my great Grandfather. His son Richard Milton Morton is my grandfather. I ran across your find a grave site, Thank you very much, as I remember my Aunt Sallie. However, I am concerned about one statement in your article. Sallie according to my information and letters in my possession says she is the daughter of Robert Henry Morton and Laura Alice Hughes. She was Born 27 October 1889 in North Carolina, near North Wilkesboro. We use to visit my Great Aunt Mae Morton who was her sister. My father was Nevitte Milton Morton son of Richard Milton Morton. I don't show an Alexander McLoughlin Morton and Mary Frances Whitlely in my information. I do know Aunt Sallie was Married to John Leonard Wells.

I sent you a message using the Edit method, that I entered a memorial for William Ferguson #138244880 in the Ferguson-McGee Cemetery in Boomer, NC. Then I noticed that you made a memorial (in the subject line) for him in the Ferguson Family Cemetery. Can you delete your entry because there is no cemetery by this name that I know of, or perhaps you can merge the 2 memorials. My computer hard drive went bad and I lost all my Email. Hold off sending me E-mail for a while. Thanks
