Thank you for the catch! This made me look at the picture again--looks like a good epitaph. I will try to decipher it and add it, too. Best wishes, Barbara

Biographical info added with flowers is inappropriate. Flowers/tokens are meant to honor the deceased.
If it is important enough to wish it added, additional info should be sent to memorial managers through the edit system (detailed in the FAQs at "Help with Find A Grave", link at the left side of the screen). Thanks

There are many family lists that have the 1559 date?? Good catch on your part. I looked everywhere and the only date that made sense was David Lamb, who had the date of 1550. I used it with the reference to the fact that there appears to be no definate date for her. Thanks for catching that.

RE: Sarah Chiles---
I sent you an email at the address given this morning (7:00 a.m.) and have deleted your post.

The issue maybe that I gave you the incorrect internet provider... I think I gave you our old one.. Sorry!

RE: Sarah Chiles Wife of Joel Lewis
Hi Twig,

I'm running out the door, but wanted to reply to your interesting and informative message.

The Chiles that I have come across in my deed research lived right on the south west border of Hanover and Henrico Counties, divided by the Chickohimmy River. If you know the area, this is where Route 33 becomes Staples Mill Road.

Circa 1850/60s Anne R. Childs is a widow, and she lives "on the farm known as Chiles Tavern," in Hanover. Her husband was William Chiles. Yes, Chiles Tavern farm was an actual tavern- most likely colonial. This is on the very old and historic Mountain Road that runs from Louisa to Richmond.

Hanover is a burned county, but the Chancery Records still exist. I have gotten tons of info from these records. It's plodding and slow to read through these papers. You find these records online through the Va. State Library on Virginia Memory.

By chance are your Lewis' connected to Fielding Lewis?

More later.

Sandy

Hi Cuz,

All the names you mention are very familiar. Let me check what I have on the Lewis' and see if I can confirm what you have.

BTW, I've been doing deed research and have run across the Chiles family of Hanover Henrico- where are your Chiles listed as living?

Sandy

RE: Taliaferro Lewis
Hi Cousin Twig!

Always awesome to meet a cousin doing research!

The Lewis' have been on the back burner for awhile with me, but they do keep popping up. A fellow Find A Grave contributor sent me a newspaper article on Jesse P. Lewis- I should say, it was an article and his obit. It seems he was a friend, as well as a neighbor of Thos. Jefferson.

I usually travel out there to pay my respects each fall, and check on the graveyard. I've been meaning to contact the DAR Chapter that maintains the grave sites, and thank them.

Thanks again for sending the great info on Taliaferro!

Sandy
