In 2006 I wrote and had published my first book,"The Missing Chapters: the Untold Story of Ezra Meeker's Old Oregon Trail Monument Expedition" (Ezra Meeker Historical Society). This was followed in 2009 by "Slick As A Mitten: Ezra Meeker's Klondike Enterprise" (Washington State University Press). In 2012 I co-authored "Our Faces Are Westward" (Oregon-California Trails Association) and in 2013 "A Yankee on Puget Sound" (Washington State University Press). My fifth book will be coming out this fall published by WSU Press, titled Hop King: Ezra Meeker's Boom Years.|
In addition, I have written many articles for various historical periodicals over the years and I often lecture around the northwest about early northwest pioneers.
My lecture at the Schmidt House in Tumwater on January 21, 2016 was televised on TCTTV channel 26 and may be viewed at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnET7zHFnjU.
My next lecture will be Sept 28, 7pm, at the Puyallup Library.

|Joanne Scobee Morgan||RE: Male Family Edits|
Her death certificate is wrong. It is only as good as the person giving the information and believe you me, I just finished the 1965 death certificates for Missouri and saw MANY strange things. You'd be surprised at the number of people who evidently never spoke of their parents and didn't know how to spell.
Anyway, I found them in various censuses and Walter was the name of her father. Possibly his middle initial was J. but I never saw that on any of them.

Hope she's not one without a marker (or an unreadable one). Good hunting to you out there!

Sorry for taking so long to respond and just now able to read the messages sent from Find A Grave members to me. Unfortunately I am not related - just a volunteer. However, I do a quick research when I can to note with a record to make it easier for those who are seeking family tree members. If you would like me to transfer her record to you, just send me a request through the edit button. Marie

My experience with two names in a searchable for Find a Grave has been that if anybody searches for ether, it will not be included in the findings.
I'm willing to go with either name. Please advise. Grace is currently in the attic at View Crest Abbey. If you are family you could request remains and do something with them. Grace seems to have had a most difficult time of it.
I am heading up our Genealogy Society Committee to find funding for unmarked graves in the county. There is over a thousand like Grace in the "Community Vaults" at View Crest Abbey. The laws are such, we can't do anything for them because we are not family.

Thank you for the info I will look up the book! Amanda Yarrington
|Charles Jones||Edwin Larson|
My name is Charles Edward Jones. I am the grandson of Edwin Larson. It's nice you've found some of the family artifacts. My parents have a copy of that large family photo. I can try and fill in some gaps.

|Sheila||"Edits" tab on home page|
HI - I'm doing a quick survey of about 400 people on my friends list just to see how many are aware of the new "Edits" tab on their home page. If you could just shoot me back a brief response, either way that would be great. Thanks.

Col. N. H. Gates was an attorney and business owner in Marysville, California in 1848. He earned a law degree from a college in Chillicothe, Ohio in the late 1820's- early 1830's. He went to Fort Vancouver to meet his family in 1852 and then settled in Portland, Oregon for 18 months, owning a hotel. He then moved to Cascade (now Cascade Locks) on the Washington side of the Columbia. He moved his family to The Dalles, Oregon in 1855 due to the Indian uprising in the area. He practiced law, owned a wagon building business, a bar, and a hotel. The hotel and his home still stand. Mary "Polly" Gates died in Sept. 1868. Sarah died in 1862 and Lydia died in 1864. Bill Gates died in 1925. Col. Gates was Speaker of tne House for Oregon Territory in 1857. He was very involved politically in The Dalles, Wasco County, And the state of Oregon. My husband is from the "2nd" family of Col. Gates by way of his last child, Nathanial Holley Gates, Jr. My information is from my own research and what has been passed down through the generations.
Best, Cheryl Gates
