With much of my immediate family growing in and around the Washington D.C area for generations, I was never overly curious about family history. After a friend who was more interested than I found photos of relatives gravesites in other states who were born during the time of Andrew Jackson I was amazed. Even a marker for my grandmother's unnamed infant son which I had seen in home movies had been photographed by someone.|
I am most familiar with DC area's, Holy Rood, Arlington Cemetery, Oak Hill and Cedar Hill Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue. I have taken many photos for my own enjoyment and for friends over the years, but realize others are often not so near.

May I use the monument photo that you contributed to the Find A Grave memorial of Erastus Johnston, to post on the Vermont Civil War site? ( www.vermontcivilwar.org)
He was a native Son of Vermont and served in both the 3rd and the 9th Infantry during the Civil War.
You will receive credit for this.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Randy, I added the information you provided. If you would like to have management/ownership of the memorial on Find A Grave, I'd be happy to transfer to you. Just let me know. Amanda

Hi -- I have the bug bad and have been researching not only my own but friends' families. As I continue to explore my D.C. friend's roots, your name keeps popping up and I just want to thank you for the extensive work you've done. Thanks to some of your notes, I'm hot on the trail of some living relatives he never knew existed even though they're virtually next door.
How often do you go to Mt. Olivet and Lincoln Memorial Cemeteries? Is it spur of the moment or do you plan your excursions? I'll eventually compile a list of grave site locations that need to be photographed and would love to pay you for the work when the time comes. Maybe in the future there will be drones we can rent and program to do the photography, or maybe there will be a detailed Google Earth service.
Hope you are well. Take care of your LEGS!

Thanks for your note. I have never been out to Holy Rood, will have to stop there sometime. We have family buried at both Mount Olivet and St Mary's in DC. Sorry to hear it is a mess at HR, very sad to see broken stones even out at Mount Olivet there are some falling over. Wonder who would take on cleaning it up, or who is supposed to maintain that it? Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to locate and photograph the Family Byrne's headstones, it is much appreciated!

Thanks, I think I know the area you are describing. I will go and take a look the next time I go, which is not generally very often.

Oh. P.S. His dad was a Lee, his mother's family was Tolson, and they married a Smackum. He never even heard that last name because his parents didn't talk about the rest of the family. :-(
