Bio Photo A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I've lived since 1998 in the Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood of Covington directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Much of my time on Find A Grave has been spent recording the Germans who settled in the Ohio River Valley in such large numbers. One of my favorite German connections is through my 9th-great-grandmother Marthe, Frau von Rocoulle (c.1655-1741), who was a Hofdame at the Berlin court of Friedrich Wilhelm von Preußen and Sophie Dorothea von Hannover, and was the Erziherin of their son Friedrich der Große.

My grandmother Luetta Deitchman Crenshaw cultivated an interest in our heritage and she was an active member and officer in the German-American Club Gesangverein in Louisville. Together we researched the families of her 2nd-great-grandfathers, Carl Deutschmann (1800-1869) and Philipp Jacob Deußer (1815-1874) of Charlestown, Indiana. When I lived in the Highlands neighborhood of my hometown I would regularly visit St Louis Cemetery where my 4th-great-grandparents, Johann Michael Hillerich (1795-1879) and his wife Anna Apollonia Ritter Hillerich (1799-1876), are buried. Michael's father Andreas Matthäus, his grandfather Lorenz, and his great-grandfather Georg Albert Hillerich (1706-1765) were all foresters, huntsmen, and squires for the Fürst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim.

One of my favorite discoveries shared on Find A Grave is the burial site of my 4th-great-grandmother, Sarah Ann Timberlake Woodfin (1809-1855), who died during a yellow fever epidemic in Norfolk, Virginia, and whose 5th-great-grandparents, Thomas Symes (c.1621-1670) and his wife Amy Bridges Symes (1621-1662), are buried in the chancel of St Michael's Church at Winterbourne in Gloucestershire. Henry Timberlake (d. 1625), the first of that name to reside in Virginia, is buried with his friend Henry Wriothesley (1573-1624), earl of Southampton, in the chancel of St Peter's Church at Titchfield in Hampshire. Some of Sarah Ann's cousins who settled in Kentucky include Henry Timberlake (1777-1848), representative in the state legislature, Maj. Thornton Timberlake (1789-1857), treasurer of the Covington and Lexington Turnpike Road Company, William D. F. Timberlake (1818-1870), board member of the Northern Kentucky Agricultural Society, and Elizabeth Gravatt Hardia Mackoy (1817-1883) of Covington.
