I started doing genealogy in 1996, when my husband's family passed around old photos and other information at a family reunion. I have been hooked every since!
I am not sure how I stumbled onto the Findagrave site, but when I saw what they were doing, I decided to start putting on-line the information that I have. Then I realized the potential of this site, by housing grave stones before cemeteries could be destroyed by moving or vandals, I started driving to area cemeteries and copying headstone information.
Instead of creating memorial pages, I am concentrating on getting the "138 Million" memorials linked together. Don't get me wrong, I still make memorial pages as well as photograph cemeteries, however, my main interest right now is getting families linked together.
Please do not duplicate memorials! It makes it difficult to link families together and/or complete cemeteries when there are duplications. First do a search of the whole website AND then if you know the cemetery, search the cemetery as well...Thank you for your consideration. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Please make note: It is NOT a "numbers" game to me, I do this to honor the deceased! I spend upwards of 10+ hours a day on the computer working on findagrave.com. It does not matter who has the memorial page, if I can add information, I send it to the creator, if it is a relative and I have a photo, I add it to the memorial page...what is important here is NOT that I have maintenance of a relative's memorial page, it is that someone cared enough to go out and photograph that memorial so that I and future generations can see the headstone!
Not to upset or belittle anyone, but I WILL ONLY MAKE PERMANENT TRANSFERS WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF FINDAGRAVE.COM that being 4 GENERATIONS: Spouses, Parents, Brothers and Sisters, Children, Grand-children, Grandparents, and Great-grandparents. Please use the "EDIT" tab to ask for EACH transfer. PLEASE STATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DECEASED and your member id#, without these, your request will be deleted.
For EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS or all other requests, I will gladly make additions, corrections or links. PLEASE USE the "EDIT" TAB on the upper right-hand corner of the memorial to send the information. This sends me a direct link to the memorial page required to make the changes. I delete all requests left on my "bio" page or sent to me in a e-mail. Don't forget to send the memorial numbers for links.
If you are seeking transfer to "have all my family together" ~ use the virtual cemetery button. Then all of the memorials will be in the same "cemetery", and you can look at them daily.
Please DO NOT leave biographical information and obituaries in a virtual flower. This is against findagrave.com policy...and the flower will be reported as "abused". As stated, I do make corrections when asked, as well as as try to give credit where credit is due.
Thanks to all of you who have sent additional information for the memorials.
MY Photo request for Leona Morgan They also reported, specifically: Denning Cemetery is not in Benton, IL. It is in Orient, Franklin County, Illinois. There is no listing of a Leona Morgan in either of the two Denning Cemetery books. There is a Leona A. Morgan listed in Masonic and Odd Fellows at Benton, Illinois...interment #8906. B: 1873 D: 1964
Due to this problem, we believe that this photo request can not be fulfilled. As a result, we are removing it. If you can fix the problems that were reported and believe a photo can be acquired, pleLink to memorial page for Leona Morgan: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=32283775
Link to contributor reporting error: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=47734417 ase feel free to make a new request.
RE: Claiborne and Nancy Smoot Dear genealogyfever, Thanks for the quick attention to the edits. As soon as others process my edit links I will be able to go from 1985 all the way back to 1767. Thanks much. Lily
Claiborne and Nancy Smoot Dear genealogyfever, I just sent edits to link Claiborne and Nancy as husband and wife and other info that I have sources for. Claiborne was my gggg-grandfather on my maternal side. It will be wonderful to have him linked to the rest of my family. Thanks for all you do on Find A Grave. Lily
Lucas Cemetery, Monroe County, Indiana Thank you for making the edit updates so quickly. I am reviewing each of the memorials in this cemetery to the Monroe County birth records, the Monroe County death records, obituaries, tombstones, etc. Your assistance has made this process much easier and the relationship links that we have added to many of the memorials in this cemetery very much improve the Find A Grave information.
