Originally a Downeaster from Maine, I married a Montanan and transplanted my roots to Washington State. (How does a girl from Maine meet a guy from Montana? --in the British West Indies, of course. We were both Peace Corps Volunteers.) |
As a "Maineac" I claim Acadian heritage from the Landry branch of my tree but am also interested in the following families of Washington and Hancock Counties, Maine: Huntley, McDevitt, Hodgkins, Wakefield, Sinclair, Cochran, Bailey, Higgins, Messer, Drew, Smith, Shaw, Young, Booth, Cook and Carnon/Carmon/Carman (to name just a few families of my bloodline.)
My husband is directly related to West Virginian Carters and Ashleys, Swedish Petersons who homesteaded in Ontario and Norwegian Paulsons from Minnesota.
My maternal grandparents settled in Woodland (Baileyville) in 1912, my mother and uncles were born there, and I was raised less than a mile from my grandmother's home. Most of my research has centered on cemeteries in Codyville, Topsfield, Princeton, Woodland, Alexander, Crawford and Wesley. Although my research began with family, I have created many memorials to honor classmates and friends, including people who worked with my father in the mill, people my mother cared for as a nurse, my parents' extensive Grange connections, and, occasionally, someone who was once simply nice to me. It's been a sentimental journey, sometimes bittersweet.
Whenever possible, I add family links, genealogy, and photos to the memorials I have created. My mother saved her mother's photo albums and I have saved Mom's. I also have Mom's collection of obituaries. You may copy any photos I have posted but please give me the courtesy of crediting them to me. Credit rewards my efforts and also allows people who view your work to track back to me and perhaps share corrections or updates, which I welcome.
Please remember that people who create memorials for Find A Grave are volunteers. Our efforts cost time and money. I have spent hundreds of hours researching genealogy and hours of vacation time photographing headstones. Gas costs as does the subscription to an ancestry site. Find A Grave is a free resource and that fact was very important in my decision to become involved. It pleases me to think that my efforts are viewable by anyone with Internet access and from any part of the world. If Find A Grave has been helpful to you, I encourage you to reciprocate the favor by committing to create memorials or photograph headstones in your own community.

Hello, I am related to the Higgins family of Codyville, ME. I am a distant cousin of yours through Lucinda Francis Higgins Cochran who was married to William Cochran. I found all your memorials amazing. I did have many of your kin on my list which I found doing research. Thank you so much for putting them on Find a Grave. I have not made it to Codyville yet. We did not get up that way last September.

Hi, Thank you so much for all your hard work. I do need to point out according to A book called Early Narraguagus River Families, Willis's parents are
Tristram Samuel Pinkham & Martha C. Jones. The 1880 census made a mistake and spelled his name as Willina J.

I had to pass on the edit to add "Sr." to George Joseph McLaughlin's memorial. He didn't become a Sr. until Jr. was born. It is the same way on my Dad's gravestone and military marker in Buckfield, Maine. He didn't become Donald Mackay Cooper, Sr. until my younger brother was born. I was supposed to be Daniel Mackay Cooper, but my cousin Daniel Ralph Cooper was born a couple of months before me. I was very small when I was born, so they named me after Tiny Tim from The Christmas Carol :)
Sincerely, Tim Cooper

Hi there, On your memorial for stephen yates #126323858, you inform us that son Eugene is included on Stephen's stone. Do you know if Eugene's wife Allie is also on there. I cannot find a death date for her. I do not expect you to ride into the cemetery with a dog sled team to look at the stone, but if you happen to know it would be great. Thanks so much. Marian

Of Josephine (Splicer) Socoby We have been looking for her burial place for many years I am wondering if anyone on this thread would know where I can begin my search.
|Perley J. Thibodeau||Tombstone gif missing.|
Why do all the sites I have sponsored have a small tombstone gif along with a heart etc.; but my uncle by marriage Alvin Roscoe Bailey's lacks a tombstone gif?

|Helen Currie||Mrs Harriet M Gray|
I read your Bio and just wanted to thank you for photographing the stone and sharing your work.
Harriet is my Gr Gr Grand Aunt. I have a copy of a Photo of her but it is not mine originally so I can not add it to Find A Grave.
Photo: Harriet Mann (Pollard) Gray. Photo taken by "Pearson, Calais, Me." On back of photo: "Austin, Nan and Roger, A Merry Christmas from Aunt Harriette, 1907." Original photo owned by L. Austin Gray Jr., Wesley, Maine;
On further researching on Ancestry her maiden name is Harriet Moore Pollard according to her daughter's marriage record.
Thank you again
