Bio and Links
Bio Photo My DNA test results confirm what I felt was true.

I am a descendant of Samuel Whitney (circa 1615-1674) who came from England to the Bermuda Islands in the 1630's. His grandson Joshua later immigrated to Isle Of Wright, Virginia.

There are three principle immigrants who came to the United States in the 1600's

Each of the following have distinct y-dna marker differences.

John Whitney - Watertown, Massachusetts
Henry Whitney - Long Island, New York
Samuel Whitney - The Bermuda Islands

I, and my genetic cousin Tara have co-authored The Whitney Newsletter. The Whitney newsletter is intended to reach Whitney families in the United States. I want to connect every Whitney to their rightful immigrant.

Issue one was sent out this month 11/2011.
If you know of any Whitney families or their lineages please contact me. Take into consideration that I have studied countless Whitney lines. Do not trust everything you see on 50% (or more) of what you find about Whitney's is wrong, or absolutely provides no clues to the present for establishing contact with disconnected Whitney lines.

Barrier Cemetery
Hi, Grady! THANK YOU for YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS, here! They are very much appreciated, Sir.

I see you photographed a tombstone for the Barrier Cemetery in Omaha, Texas.

Was the marker illegible?

I am looking for a relative in this vicinity who passed away in 1879 - Olivia Green Burge - my GG Grandmother; thus, my curiosity.

Beautiful picture, by the way!

Any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

Minnie B. Pickens
Minnie Randolph married Houston Pickens in 1896. By 1910, they were divorced. He remarried by 1920 to Minnie D. I added a page for his second wife. Would you mind removing the photo from his first wife's page and post it on Minnie D.'s page? I appreciate your help. Thank you!

RE: Hobson
To answer your question truthfully- I don't know!
In this case I assume "Chass" would be referring to his given name Chasten.
With my limited search I was unable to find out anything about the son; we always wonder "what happened" when someone so young dies. There are many more questions than answers although sometimes an obit will give you some insight. Thanks for the link!

Alexander Carter Taylor 1858-1958
Mr Whitney-

Alexander Taylor was my great grandfather. His daughter Nancy Anna Taylor Morton was the mother of Ollie Morton Glazner, my mother.
I am 76 years old and grew up west of Anson, Texas in Jones County. I recall going to east Texas when I was about 8 or 10 years old for Mr Taylor's birthday celebration. (probably his 90th)
It would be interesting to learn how you are connected to him. If you have time, please advise me.

Debbie (Burger) Wheeler
James Madison Whitney
Dear Grady -
I was going through Find A Grave to see if there had been any new additions, when I came across -
JAMES MADISON WHITNEY - I have believed for the past 15 years that his wife's maiden name was MARY ANN BURRIS, but couldn't prove it. I also had come across RACHEL POINDEXTER and AARON WHITNEY as his parents, but couldn't prove it either. I see that your posts lists all 3 of these names.
My husband is related to James Madison Whitney through is paternal grandfather. To back date them for you -
Roger Dale Wheeler (My Husband)
Samuel Kendrick Wheeler (Roger's Father)
Samuel Harrison Wheeler (Grandfather)
Bartley Wheeler (Great-Grandfather) married Eliza Ellen Whitney - they had 13 children. I am going from memory here, so hope I have the children correct.
Would you happen to be related to James and Mary? Eliza Ellen (Whitney) Wheeler died sometime between 1890 and 1910 - I have yet to find her grave. I know that some of the Wheeler children stayed in Missouri, Bartley and most of the children moved to Oklahoma - around the Stroud area. Rebecca married a Beard and moved to Nebraska and died in California.

You said you wanted to hear from descendants of Alfred Ayers Phifer, etc. Alfred's son, Edward Clarence Phifer, was my maternal grandmother's father. I notice you only have Alda listed as Edward's child. Alda had a twin, Alfred, and another sister, Effie Maurine, who was my grandmother. Hope this helps! I wish there was some way to directly order tombstone pics so that I didn't have to print them out. But thank you for all your work!!
