Burials where the interment is unknown may be added using the 'Other' burial option, then 'recent death, location of body unknown'. Location of body unknown must be used for recent deaths where the disposition is not currently known. Final disposition must be determined and updated within 30 days.

If a memorial has the designation "body lost or destroyed"
This designation should be used when there is documentation and knowledge that the body has been lost or destroyed and its burial location is lost to history.
If documentation exists then I will link to the memorial.

Some members have used this to avoid doing the research. Then they move the memorial to the cemetery where their memorial should reside creating a duplicate record and claim a duplicate situation trying to take ownership of another members work. This action will be reported to FAG Administration.

How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?
First, Determine if you really need the memorial transferred to you for management. Only request transferring of management if you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections without having to request management. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a management transfer request. With hundreds of thousands of contributors, we have many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire tree.

Second, Transfer requests will be for direct relatives within four generations. This would be your siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

F.A.G. transfer policy: Transfer requests should be for direct relatives within four generations. State your exact relationship, please.

If you are seeking transfers to "have all my family together", you can achieve this without the transfer of memorial by using the virtual cemetery option.

I am happy to post information from an obituary that will enhance the memorial in the BIO section of a memorial. I will not post the obituary itself due to questions regarding copyright.

Please appreciate that 8 years ago when I started contributing to FAG the mission was a grave registration. Since then and especially since FAG was taken over by Ancestry, the mission has changed focus to include detailed memorials with more genealogy. Creating this type of memorial takes time. The automated system has its flaws and the information is not researched before the system makes the changes. Memorials that were once accurate have been changed. Children have marriages. Babies have been morphed into what another person has perceived to be accurate. Remember we are human and make mistakes. Please also remember we are VOLUNTEERS trying to help others as well as maintain the volume of information that is sent to us without sources. Do your research and share it so the memorials can as accurately as possible be managed.
Please in fairness to all send sources that are accessible to anyone wishing to confirm them, as I use the free website www.familysearch.org for official document copies or online books for information.

We Are The Chosen

My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again,
To tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead,
Breathing life into all who have gone before.

We are the story tellers of the tribe.
We have been called as it were by our genes.
Those who have gone before cry out to us:
Tell our story.
So, we do.
In finding them, we somehow find ourselves.

How many graves have I stood before now and cried?
I have lost count.

How many times have I told the ancestors
you have a wonderful family, you would be proud of us?

How many times have I walked up to a grave
and felt somehow there was love there for me?
I cannot say.

It goes beyond just documenting facts.
It goes to who I am and why I do the things I do?
It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever
to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen.
The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh.

It goes to doing something about it.
It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish.
How they contributed to what we are today.
It goes to respecting their hardships and losses,
their never giving in or giving up.

Their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.
It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation.
It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us
That we might be born who we are.
That we might remember them.
So we do.
With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence,
Because we are them and they are us.
So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family.

It is up to that one called in the next generation,
To answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers.
That is why I do my family genealogy,
And that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones.
