I have been a member of Find a Grave for several years mostly to look for famous people for the 1st couple of years on the site.In May 2008 I started actively searching for marker requests for folks in the Preston & Monongalia County areas of West Virginia.I was inspired by a trip to look for my great grandma's marker that day in May and I was bitten by the Find A Grave bug so to speak.I wanted to help people get pictures of their loved ones' grave markers and it's been a very pleasurable & rewarding hobby ever since.I take it as a challenge to locate cemeteries I've never been to and searching through thousands of headstones looking for requests.I have great respect for the people that have passed away and are no longer with us,and to be able to visit them even if it's just to look for a marker I feel that I also help these people to not be forgotten.
Sorry for the lack of updates to anyone that reads my profile.Due to not having $ for gas I have not been able to make any treks for marker searching but hopefully that will change sooner than later.Hope all of my Find A Grave friends are doing well and have a great summer.
- Nate -------------------------------------------------------------- Please let me know if I can transfer, correct and/or update any listings that I have put online.
**If you have the time, please leave a flower for my grandma Dee - she was one of the most influential & loving persons that I've known and I miss her so much & hope she is proud of what I have done for others through this great site.**
Mistake You uploaded a picture of Roseline C. Brand's headstone but I just want to point out that she is my great grandmother and is alive. That headstone was most likely put there to save the space by her husband, Harold Clyde Brand. Thank you.
Ellis Ray and Margaret Eileen Poling Just to let you know that the two memorials, # 42334993 and #42335008 for Ellis Ray and Margaret Eileen Poling are for two individuals that are alive and living in Florida. They are lifetime friends of my family.
Before searching for your grandma Dee, maybe you have some thoughts on this. I have a Martha Washburn Packard Thayer and her Find A Grave lists and links several sons and daughters but a son and daughter Nathaniel and Hannah are listed in the text with their Find A Grave is numbers but not linked. Also Hannah apparently is aka Sophronia.
BIG BOO BOO -Hope you read this Hi, My name is Will Snyder and I am one of the Snyder/Snider clan. I have traveled to West Virginia and studied the family history for over 50 years. My gr gr gr gr grandfather was John Snider who lived in Crooked Run (near Fort Martin) and was captured and lived with the Indians when he was 10 years old before he was returned 10 years later. His son, David Snider, went to the Georgetown area and started the town of Snidersville (no longer exists) on Sniders Run Creek. He also started the Snider's Temple which is still standing. David Snider's son, Samuel B. Snider lived near Arnettsville on a farm on White Lick Run Creek just over the hill from what is the little community of Crown.
My problem is that I am seeing some odd things going on that do not seem to be accurate. This cemetery where Sam is buried is called the Snider Cemetery ( that's what the sign says on the outside gate) It was started by Samuel B. Snider when his family started dying in the 1840's. The graveyard was kept up for many years into the 20th century and the last I knew was managed by a Paul Snider of Morgantown. The cemetery IS NOT IN Morgantown as listed. It would be more accurately be listed as Crown or Arnettsville as the location .
Also somebody has added names to the David Snider Cemetery that I do not know if they are actually buried there. People seem to be guessing instead of really relying on the actual old records that are more accurate but often gone. I have noticed this is really a BIG PROBLEM on Ancestry.com. New Ancestry members are in such a hurry to add names to their family trees that they are not careful and not accurate. It is very frustrating for a guy like me that checks and re-checks and continually attempts to get to the solid facts rather than just carelessly relying on some things in print just because they are in print AND MANY TIMES are wrong.
You can contact me at .......firstname.lastname@example.org.
Perhaps we can correct this situation before it gets any more "inaccurate."
Eugenis Plum Eugenis was my great grandfather, his son Walter Clyde Plum was my grandfather,he had a son Joseph Ralph Plum and he was my father. I have a brother name after my great grandfather, Frank Eugene plum. I have a list of Eugenis and Johanna Vansickle plum children if you are interested, I noticed that you only had U. Grant Plum and Walter Clyde Plum and for his children, you only have Elmer Gay Plum And Vera Susan Plum Knotts listed, I also have all the chidren in that family of which my father was one.
Edward Hartley sir, Edward Hartley, Masontown WV Community cemetery has the wrong photo, the Gravestone shown is of Drake Swindler not Edward Hartley. Edward's gravesite is not exactly known. My grandmother Ava Hamilton Hartley told me in 1966 that the grave is on the roadside side of the large HARTLEY Monument. this monument was placed by Peter M Hartley. regards
James William Proudfoot- photo Thank you for your time and work helping the rest of us who are far from West Virginia trying to find the graves of our ancestors! I have only been to Taylor County twice and was able to take a few photos at 3 cemeteries there, but I doubt that I will ever be able to go back. What is your policy about sharing these photos on other websites? My family tree is on Geni.com and I would like to add a few of your headstone photos to the profiles on my tree, with your permission (and credit to you).
