<-- My sons, Sean and Eric, and myself, several years ago.|
The older you get, the more deaths it seems, or maybe I was just too young to know the difference. I wanted something to memorialize members of my family and friends.
My cousin found out that in our Scovill line we come from three Mayflower passengers; John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, and Richard Warren.
The majority of the memorials I made are family and some are very close family friends.
For all those that took my family pictures and used them on Ancestry, you weren't supposed to copy them unless you ask me first, and it would have been nice for anyone of you to say "Hey, I used your picture on my family tree!" I would have replied with something like "Lets see how we are related!"
Discovering who your ancestors are is one thing, but reading about them even if its just an obituary tells you something about them as a person, not just another leaf in the tree. Seeing their final resting place is a type of closure for me.
I'm looking for any information on Scovill, Hill, Gear, Parlett, Lawton, Shields, Weilbacher, Frierdich, Murrah.
Just to clarify, my mother does a lot of work on here with me since she knows the older family better than I do. If a memorial has many links, they are probably in my family.
Please don't add any music to my interments. If you have a picture for one of my memorials you'd like to add, go ahead, but please let me know so I can see it! Thanks!
If I've left flowers on a memorial, that doesn't mean that I know them. It could be that I was flowering random names, or I got there by following links from other memorials. I've flowered over 30,000 memorials, and I probably only knew a very small percentage of those people.
**I've sent out a lot of edits lately. I didn't single anyone out or intentionally pick on anyone, I'm just looking through family names in various counties. If I can see things that can be put on the memorial to make it more complete, then I send an edit.**
This was posted in the forums, and I think it pretty much sums up how most of us feel about graving and looking for our ancestors.
Your tombstone stands among the rest
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
you died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spread out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
By Thelma Greene Reagan
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

I have no idea. I wish that cemeteries would more often post a way to make donations and get on a mailimg list. Maybe some area funeral homes could advise.
|Sandra Bonner Adair||Typo|
Thank you for catching my typo for Willie Watts. I have corrected his name; added his branch of service and rank; and, his plot number.
|Joseph Curry||RE: Ward Cemetery|
Haven't been there since, but hope to this year. It was surprisingly well-kept. Wish they'd post where to get on mailing list to help with upkeep etc.

|Don Williams||RE: Request for Transfer|
Hi Sherry, A Woman named "Pattie" created a memorial for William E Smith (Find A Grave Memorial# 158039945) who is William Ross Smith's father. So I am not sure what "SENIOR" you are talking about since they do not share the same middle name. But since I am a friend of the family I know for sure that WES is the father of WRS. Pattie transfered William E Smith to me and after that was done, Cindy (daughter of WES and sister to WRS asked if I could control her brother's monument also. That is the reason for the request. I appreciate your offer for transferring both but I am not sure what SENIOR you speak of at this time. Thank you again for consideration of this request.
|Don Williams||Request for Transfer|
Hi Sherry, This may be a second request as I am not sure the one I tried to send yesterday actually got sent. Request transfer of William Ross Smith (Find A Grave Memorial# 8996632) to me. WRS is the son of my recently departed friend, William E Smith (Find A Grave Memorial# 158039945). WES and I flew together as combat helicopter pilots in Vietnam. Cindy (daughter of WES) asked me if I could also maintain her brothers memorial. I told her that I would ask.
I appreciate any consideration you give this request. If you need to contact me please email me at CobraCaptain@earthlink.net.
