Bio and Links
Bio Photo Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, mother of three son's and wife to a wonderful man for forty years. I am researching Shaffer & Nutter in West Virginia. Graves, Swick, Snyder, Dyer, Lawless and Holcomb in southern Ohio. I'll be happy to transfer non-family members, please feel free to ask. While researching in the cemeteries, I like to take names and photo's of near by non-family members also in the hope of maybe helping other families.
Good Luck to all in their research and God Bless You all!

Wood/Woods Cemetery
Winifred Houston Bard #69174205 is listed as buried in
Wood Cemetery†
Huntington Township
Gallia County
Ohio, USA

She is also listed as #7919778 (with the wrong birthdate)
In
Woods Cemetery†
Greenfield Township
Gallia County
Ohio, USA

There are other duplicate burials as well.

Perhaps you could find out how to get Findagrave to merge the two cemeteries. The FAQs say that to ask for a cemetery merger, you need to know the area and be sure of the correct name and exact location. Iím in Virginia, have no idea which is the correct name or township, or if there are two cemeteries of the same name. I was just looking for Houstons and found this discrepancy.

Clark Chapel / Sarah Jane Palmer Harman, b. abt. 1867
Ms. Campbell,
Because you have done many of my ancestor memorials at Clark Chapel Cemetery at Morgan Center, Gallia Co. and many of the memorial photos, I seek your opinion/assistance regarding a possible stone that I think may be there, but not yet on a memorial page.

I wish to find the grave of Sarah Jane Palmer Harman (born about 1867).
Sarah's father, Samuel Palmer, is buried at Clark Chapel (your memorial # 72959065)
Sarah married John Harman in 1885, and both of his parents are also at Clark Chapel (your memorials # 72959350 & # 72959320 for David & Barbary Harman)

Sarah & John had two children, Bessie in 1886, & Mary E. in 1887.
Then the record for Sarah Jane ends!

John Harman married my granny, Ella Kent Grover, in 1892, so I think that Sarah Jane may have died between 1887 & 1892 in Morgan Twp. If she did, I would think that the families would have buried her at Clark Chapel with all of her kin & her husband's kin.

Her stone may be there fairly close to that of her father, Samuel Palmer, the Civil War Vet that you took photos of his stones, who died in 1894, not long after the death of his first born, Sarah.
A stone that may say "Sarah J Harman", or "Sarah, wife of J Harman" or some such thing?

Thank you for all you have done out there at Clark Chapel. - Ronald T.

David Parsley
Richard Parsley - died in Camp Chase is my Great-great grandfather
Hi JiniLee -

I was pleased to see your comments under Richard's write-up.

Richard did not have pro-Confederate or anti-Northern sentiments until he was forced into the fight by occupying US troops in 1862. The troops commandeered his farm in DeKalb County - evening attempting to force him into the US forces. Richard would not relent but stalled the US commander's actions ( I do not have his name handy) long enough for his wife and child (William aka "Jasper") to escape to a nearby cave where they stayed for several months living on what they could gather.

Richard was able to get away from the US troops after being arrested for refusal to aid after 3 days detention. He then headed east and met up with CSA troops where he enlisted in thinking it as the only course to get his family and farm back.

Richard was captured during the campaign of The Wilderness and was summarily sent to Elmira/Camp Chase where he eventually succumbed.

While I dislike the notion his remains are in Camp Chase, I do know the inhabitants of the cemetary are cared for and respected by those honorable Americans who maintain the camp today.

Thanks.

Anslem T. Holcomb
If there are any Holcomb family members alive one could sign an application for a military headstone from the Veterans Administration.

JiniLee Campbell - Leave Public Message

JiniLee,

Would you make the following changes to Eleanor's memorial?

b. 21 Jul 1858 - Springfield, Gallia, Ohio, USA
d. 1916 - Morgan, Gallia, Ohio, USA

d/o Robert and Mary Morehouse Guinn
w/o Cassius M. Fisher - married 9 July 1872 - Springfield, Gallia, Ohio, USA
- My system indicates Eleanor was 13 years old when she was married. This appears to be correct for the dates given
m/o:
Waldo A. Fisher - (1873- )
Augustis Fisher - (1875-1876)
Charley R - Fisher - (1877- )
Blanche Fisher - (1879- )
Ross C. Fisher - (1880-1936)
Hal Fisher (1881- )

The statement "Note: Cassius does not seem to be buried here" should be removed because:
1) This is Eleanor's memorial, not Cassius's
2) Cemetery records and the gravestone photo clearly indicate this is where Cassius is buried

Thanks,
Jerry
