|charlott jones||Eli H. Powers # 9083986|
Eli was killed at Salem Church, between Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville in the early evening of 3 May `1863. Initially buried in a trench/pit with approximately 200 soldiers of the 6th Corp of which the 121st New York was a regiment in. After the end of the war, when Fredericksburg National Cemetery was started the remains of those killed at Salem Church were taken there and again placed in a mass grave.
The tombstone date is correct, but a note needs to be added that is stone is simply that, a memorial put there by the family.
