I was born at St. Vincent's Orphanage in Chicago. Because of the federal, State and local laws denying adoptees their basic civil rights to their original birth certificates and adoption records, I spent 30 years searching for clues to my biological families by searching libraries for obituaries and for information in old phone books, etc. This entailed a LOT of travel because I did this prior to the explosion of personal computers and online databases and resources for research into genealogy. Unless you are an adoptee, I don't think you will fully understand the extreme joy and connection I experienced when I found the graves of my biological maternal grandparents! And the information contained on those markers led me to finding my maternal half siblings. It also led me to tracing my own ancestry back more than 7 generations. I couldn't be happier if my contributions to Find A Grave can help someone in their genealogy research or in feeling a bit of that connection I felt when I found my biological grandparents' graves.|
I had been posting obituaries I obtained from online sources to the memorials I add to Find-A-Grave. But, Find-A-Grave's FAQ (#89) concerning the posting of such obituaries is rather specific. So, I no longer post such obituaries.

Thanks for all the time and effort you spent in this pursuit. I am not related but like to see these old sites recorded and photographed. Wonder if there was ever a marker!? We'll likely never know. Thanks again.

You added a memorial to Rachel Trotter Rich's record (died Indiana, 1857). Do you know who her first husband was? Where they married and who their children are? Rachel Rich is my 5th great grandmother through her first son, Benjamin Trotter. I'm looking for his father. Thanks for any information you've found. Shara-Dee Seiter.
Thank you so much for taking the picture of the Shellenberger grave site I requested. John Schulkins
Thank you so much for taking the photo of Richard's marker. And also leaving the flowers on his memorial page.
