This summer I'm searching for my kin (Brown, Collins, Duel, Gifford, Reynolds, Robinson, Saunders, Shaw)- and suggesting links (not to BU), edits & adding from obits. We're having fun visiting cemeteries around NYS where many of my maternal relatives lived. |
-happy to transfer memorial if I am not related.
- use any photos any where & any way you wish. Please add this to the photo caption "Used with the written permission of Jeni (#47733487) at FindaGrave" If you have a better photo, I'll delete upon request.
Notes about Schenectady County cemeteries I'm also working on:
First Presbyterian - adding pictures & plots from map/card list, the more sources you use, the more challenging it is to find the correct spelling of names - YIKES
Agudat Achim - I used Jewish Gen for Hebrew translations & their date calculator for dates found only in Hebrew. I will be adding my photos to their website when done adding here.
Gates of Heaven - As of Nov. 2013 the entire cemetery was photographed. I used "Listings and Inscriptions of Temple Gates of Heaven Cemetery as of September, 1983" compiled by Virginia C. Dolins for some missing memorials/information. .
I am completing adding memorials in all the Jewish cemeteries in Schenectady County. I am working on completing the mapping and description of all the Schenectady County cemeteries.
Top ten tips I've learned (slowly, sometimes painfully)
1-When searching for parent links, use "Before" in the drop down box for Birth date before child
2-Use a shortcut program such as TextExpander to save tons of time doing inscriptions
3-If there is an office always ask how they prefer to handle plot requests - never just appear with a list
4-Read the forums - there are many good ideas there (and humor)
5-When fulfilling requests photo all the graves around that memorial
6-My cemetery tool belt includes a child's broom (soft & no bending needed), tiny clippers which won't damage a flat stone, flowers, gloves, wipes, Umbrella hat
7-Check before you enter a memorial for dupes in that cemetery & after for dupes in that county
8-When you go to a new section in a cemetery, take a picture of that section's sign before photographing any memorials
9-Fulfill photo requests for the joy of the hunt, some pictures are never acknowledged
10-You can type in numbers & letters in a drop down box - it can be much quicker

yes, this is the same cemetery. They are talking about cleaning up one neglected section of it.

Thank you so much for trying one more time to find Henry & Malene's tombstones. I am very glad you were successful. Your marker photos are wonderful. I live very far away so I am truly appreciative of your efforts.

Thanks for transferring the memorial. I will add to it as I find more.

I just got off the phone with Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. First of all I made a mistake on the plot information I gave you for Malene. I said Sec E, Lot 72, and Henry in Sec E, Lot 73. The correct information on their burials is both are in Sec E, Lot 73, S.E. Corner. Maureen, whom I talked with, said the Lot card mentions that there is a Government Marker, which means that Henry was probably a veteran. To save you time wandering around in the general area again, why don't you go in the office on Thursday and discuss this with whoever is on duty and look at the map.
I do apologize for making this error in the first place. Let's hope that things will be different on Thursday!

Well, it's time they did! Look at all the beautiful work you have done. Thank you!
|dran||RE: William Lyman|
Thank you for your message. The two William Lyman's you reference are not the same person. I may have created a memorial for my William without closely checking the dates. I have removed my William from the cemetery

|Carlotta Draper||John Ludlow|
You have solved a mystery! I have been looking (online) for John Ludlow's grave to connect his children & wife with him on Find A Grave. Thank you so much! John Ludlow is my 4x great grandfather. John Ross Ludlow Jr. and Noah Miller Ludlow are 2 of his sons. Noah was a famous actor and is my 3x great grandfather. My great grandmother was a Ludlow and married Daniel Draper tying the Ludlows and Drapers (my surname). I would be thrilled if you would transfer the memorials to me.
Thank you so much for creating them!
I can't thank you enough!
