I have been going genealogy research for over 40 years; started when there were NO computers and the records were not always available. I enjoy helping people look for there ancestors. I am currently one of the Salem Christian Union Church's historians. I take care of the past history and am working on the cemetery there. We are documenting the headstones with photos, stone rubbings, and sometimes able to unearth stones. There are three books; which are now sold out; the history of the church and one of all the persons who are buried in the church yard and one of just the veterans buried here. Hopefully reprints will be available soon. I am also interested in finding old photos of Salem church and the cemetery. The cemetery was vandalized twice in 1974 and 88 headstones were damaged.

Please, DO NOT DUPLICATE the entries OR ADD ANY INFORMATION AND NOT LET ME KNOW!!! I am bringing the cemetery and veterans' books up to date; or trying to. Cannot do this if you add someone and not notify me. Also, in the process of updating and adding information and its very time consuming to keep going back and forth. Also, I do not transfer families at this time as this is an on-going site and I am the caretaker of the cemetery records. I will gladly add any information that you like. ALL headstone photos have been entered on this site that are available. If others are found I will put them on as soon as I can. There are around 200 UNMARKED graves.

I consider Southern Illinois; Jasper Co.; my home and the surnames I research there are Wilkerson/Wilkinson, Curtright, Shelly, Fore, Worthey, Wilson, Barker, Joseph, Larkin(s), Clark, Densmore, Martin, Barker/Reiglesberger, Pictor and McKinney/McKimmey . Happy Searching and may God bless...

RE: Minerva McCorkle
Hi Barbara,

Thank you very much for your permission. Yes, I am interested in other McCorkles. I would like gravestone photos and photos of cemeteries, besides any obituaries or other information about McCorkles. They are cousins of my husband (John McCorkle and Lydia Forrest are his 3rd great grandparents - his great grandmother was Syntha Jane McCorkle).

RE: Hessenflow
I am a very distant relative of Samuel Hessenflow, through his wife Amanda Ingram. I don't think I could help much. I am on and that's where I got the picture you're speaking of. If you send me questions and/or pictures, I'd be happy to look them over. Not sure how much help I'd be, but I'm happy to try.
My email address is

Happy hunting.

P.S. I live in Liberty, Missouri, just a few miles from Excelsior Springs, where many of the Hessenflows lived and are buried.
