I am an amateur historian at heart. After I discovered the Find A Grave website, I felt much gratitude to those who served as contributors. I feel that visiting a gravesite is a way of paying my respects to someone, either famous or non-famous, for having contributed to our history. I appreciate Jim Tipton's Find A Grave website as a means of permitting many people to do that without incurring significant expenses. I also look upon this website as a source of historical reference material. For these reasons, I decided to become a contributor of text and photos. Because I have developed a great interest in Japan in recent years, I have sought to have that nation well represented. In this regard, I have gotten much help from Mr. Akira Komatsu, Suwa-city, Nagano, (L) and Mr. Daiju Omura, Yokohama-city, Shinagawa, (R) who have unselfishly assisted me with research and permitted me to contribute pictures of theirs to Find A Grave. I also thank Dr. Mark Jewel of Tokyo's Waseda University for the use of several of his pictures.|

Thank you for taking over the memorial and adding so much history and the photos. I am a descendant of his father William Wallace Irwin and his first wife. I have added many Irwin family memorials and also endeavor to connect the Irwin's so their stories live on.

Hi, Just thought I would let you know that your info states that the match lit by the waiter was most likely the cause, however they Fire Dept determined it wasn't. They said that it was the toxic, flammable liquid in the refrigeration systems being used to as a replacement for Freon, as in WW2 it was virtually impossible to get. Also, the entire scenery set up was flammable. The minute a fire broke out in the coolant system, everything else went up as well. My Great-Grandfather was Deputy Chief at the time. He was quoted by the family as saying "I left for work that night with black hair, and came back with it white." It was the most horrific thing he ever saw he said.
