My brother "Skip" and I enjoy genealogy. He's my expert regarding Belmont county, OH. We both take photos of tombstones, especially of family members. Some of the surnames are Bain, Bane, Blaine, Budd, Curtis, Giffen, Giffin, Haines, Hepburn, Hinkle, Keyser, Long, Milligan, Pond, Spears, Shahan, and Terrill.|
In addition to Belmont county, OH, we explore Ohio and Brooke counties in WV. I travel between Belmont Co and Columbus, OH. So, I make a few stops along the way, such as Cambridge or Zanesville.
I look for family tombstones across the country and try to link them back to Belmont Co., OH or Ohio Co., WV.
I have several GIFFEN / GIFFIN family trees at ancestry.com. There's my Giffen family which started with Robert and Mary (Bane) Giffen. Plus a family tree for the Andrew Giffin family.
More recently, I've added family trees for Giffens/Giffins in the following Ohio counties; Athens, Butler, Coshocton, Licking, Miami & Hamilton, and Ross County. Many of these Scott ~ Irish lines can be followed back to the late 1700s, in Penn.
I presently live in Franklin Co., OH, but grew up in Belmont Co., OH.
Belmont Co. site ~
Ancestry tree name is "Terry Magyar"
Please contact (use the EDIT function) me if need an item corrected of if you have additional information regarding any of the these families.

|Phillip Plotz, M.D.||William Giffin|
I took a photo of William and added but not in time before some else claimed it. You may want to remove your request if you are satisfied with it. Thanks.
|Donald Comis||Posting looks fine|
Thanks, looks fine. I'll send you the details from the actual texts soon to firm up what I added.

I'm suggesting you add the information that Hettie was first buried in Millwood in what is at least now Howard Township near the Union Township line, almost certainly on her property. By the time the History of Knox County was written or published, 1881, her body and one or two others were exhumed and moved to Workman Cemetery.
I don't have my notes on hand and can't find the e-mail I sent you so I can't be too much more specific, other than to say the cemetery in Millwood is gone, and there were two men buried there in addition to Hettie, most likely Gilman Bryant, and a mysterious undated "Johnny Appleseed".
The exact information of the three tombstone names and the cemetery name in Millwood is in the Knox County Cemetery Records. I can't find my Xeroxed copies of the records but can get them again in the Mt. Vernon, Ohio, library. The records state the graves were moved to Danville.

Sorry to say I do not know Marys parents or husband. What the wife and I do is go to the local cemeteries and take pictures of the headstones and enter them here on Find-a-Grave. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
|Edward Rowlance||RE: Ashenhurst|
I consulted with some others that do a lot of Find A Grave work and they recommended that I keep the memorial and update the note to indicate that he was moved to another cemetery.
|Edward Rowlance||William Ashenhurst|
I agree with you that the memorial I created in Westlawn for William J Ashenhurst is the same as the one at Belmont County. You'll see from the note in my memorial that his body was moved from Westlawn to Belmont county in 1895.
The question is since his body was in Westlawn for a few years does it make sense to keep the memorial at Westlawn or not? What's your opinion? I'll consult with a few others on this also.
|Rusty||RE: High Ridge|
Not for a couple of months. Linwood is the only cemetery that I have visited lately.
