Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been drawn to cemeteries for as long as I can remember, having often played among the old tombstones at Oxbow Lakeside Cemetery while growing up in White Lake, Michigan.

If you would like to leave a flower for my Dad, I'd really appreciate it. Please & thank you! :) December 10, 2016 will be his 32nd Angel Day. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He was a wonderful person and parent.

My family genealogy names include Burks, Kerr, Ellison, Fitzgerald, Glazier, Vidlicka, Corley (Curley, Kurlick), Tomorackas and Tiscavitch. See my virtual cemeteries for more details.

When I moved to Los Angeles in 1988 I began exploring celebrity graves as a hobby and along the way have been just as moved by the neighboring "civilian" headstones that surround and outnumber them. I met like-minded grave hunters when The Hollywood Underground Yahoo group was formed in 1998.

I ran the website from 2007-2015 in order to keep the public informed about the ongoing closure/lawsuit story happening there in Glendale, Calif. The cemetery is now under new ownership and I am focusing on chronicling its 100+ year history.

Volunteers still work on updating the Grand View FindAGrave page and fulfilling photo requests.

In late June 2014 I moved back to Michigan to become my aged Mom's primary caregiver. I continue to work remotely on West Coast projects, and explore local cemeteries such as White Lake, Oxbow Lakeside, Granger and Highland Cemeteries as time allows.

Adventures in Grave Hunting is my cemetery-related blog. I haven't updated it in a while but the archives of old stories go back several years. I plan to resume updating it when Grand View gets back on its feet and I complete the book about its history. I have a huge backlog of interesting stories just waiting to be told when I have more free time.

My first contribution to Find A Grave was in August 2000, in honor of my grave hunting buddy Denis Svoboda.

I collect vintage photographs of grave markers and of people posing in cemeteries, wondering about the stories behind the snapshots. I like to match them with Find A Grave memorials that are already online, virtually reuniting loved ones whose pictures somehow ended up for sale here and there. See the evolving results here.

RE: Sophronia Goodell-Comstock @ White Lake Cemetery
HUGS to your Mom - Lisa. What a lovely way to spend time together for fresh air & a little exercise & outing for your Mom - so glad she enjoys exploring cemetery history too.

Sophronia Goodell-Comstock @ White Lake Cemetery
Thank you so much Lisa for locating her burial location next to her husband - I love your thoughtful tradition of the "flowers" to mark the grave. I'm not related but I wanted to fill in some blanks of this interesting family for others as I become attached to so many & their history. I read your profile and thank you for your out-standing work & hobby to record history - Blessings to You & Your Mom - that is not an easy task & very rewarding to her.

Geno D'Angelo
Hello Lisa-

Thank you for the correct cemetery for Mr. D'Angelo. That's the first time I've had to move a memorial to a different cemetery! I added his memorial from an obituary and it had the wrong cemetery. While I was moving his memorial I looked him up on Ancestry and added what I found.

Keep up the good work.

I contacted the township clerk's office as usual to try and get the lot and grave numbers for this one as they keep the records for the cemetery. Anyway, they don't have a record of this one. Obviously it's there, you took the picture. I sent them a copy, hope you don't mind. But I was wondering if you have any idea where you were in the cemetery when you took this picture? Any information can help... landmarks... names from nearby grave markers... Then they can send the sextant out to take note of it so they have some sort of official record.

RE: Photos Coming Soon
Thanks. So do you. Unfortunately health issues are keeping me from actually going to the cemetery of late. Hoping to get it straightened out soon so I can get back to work, so to speak.

RE: Photos Coming Soon
I put up those placeholder photos because I have had a problem with another contributor posting incorrect photos on my memorials and even though I can prove they are incorrect, she says I'm wrong and refuses to take them down. Find A Grave did nothing to help when I asked, either before or after the handover to So I took matters into my own hands and have started placing those photos to lock down my memorials. I'm more than willing to open up slots if anyone asks, just not for her. She also had a habit of filling up slots with duplicate photos because she decides hers are better. So if she wants to pay for more space to put her photos up, she can. But she can't have my 5 free slots. I've had to delete and remake at least a hundred memorials because of her and I'm not even done going through everything from that cemetery.

Hey Lisa,

Thank you for the wonderful obit on this man. I also wanted to acknowledge and thank you for all the work you have done at and for Grandview. I have been there twice in the late 60's with an elderly neighbor to visit her mother. I was in my teens. That is what got me interested in wandering cemeteries and reading the sentiments people place on headstones. I see you name, often, at many of the cemeteries I photograph and see how dedicated you are. Respectfully, James Mason
PS: I think we met once at Forest Lawn with Jayne?

Jack Stephan
Hi Lisa. Nice job with Jack Stephan's memorial. I was at IPC yesterday and got a current photo of his name plate with death date on it, but I can't add it because the 5 photo limit is met. Would you want to remove the one that doesn't have the final date on it so I can add it?

I saw some Burks above the Stephan family. Relatives of yours???
