I grew up in Ohio and currently live in New York.|
HIVELY - STRATTON - MILES - TABER - BRAZIEL/BRAZIELL - MCCAUSLIN/MCCAUSLAND
I have tons of information on my side of the family from my father who has spent many years researching. He was a scientist so he is very meticulous and does not show anything he has not verified in some way.
BOWN - BAINES - CARNAHAN
Researching this joined family: Bown in England and Pittsburgh, Baines/Carnahan in Pittsburgh, ongoing. Much information in late 2009.
SCHAMBERGER/SCHAMBERG - RAMSPERGER
I have spent about three years (as of Mar 2009), most painstaking research of finding just one descendant who had any information at all, finding censuses on line, newspaper articles. What I have so far is slim but solid.
BRAZIEL/BRAZIELL - LAGRAVE
Most of this information has come through (after my father's research of 3 generations back) very slow results then finding a whole lode of information through Abenaki websites and through an Abenaki anthropology doctoral candidate who is researching the breaking down and the scattering of the Abenaki communities in St. Francis and the Northeast; and from one descendant who had many records and contributed original research for the Lagrave family.
BARBER - VANDERMEID - MACOMBER - CHRISTIE - REED - PITTS
On my husband's side, the information I have collected since 2007 comes from a genealogy book filled in by Ruth Barber (1886-1966) who was interested in family history; and a briefcase of notes from my mother and father in law, some from his father about family history. I have built on that through census records, church records, and cemetery records, where available and a few ancestry books, specifically Don Barber's Connecticut Barbers.

Just a small correction to your write-up for Robert. Milford Township is located in Oakland County, not Oakwood County. :)

I generally use only the name as it appears on the gravestone. Hope that helps.

My note was perhaps too short. Robert Colister's stone is there, as shown on Findagrave. Three stones are grouped there, perfectly legible: Robert, Asahel and Sarah. The 1850 census shows Robert living with his son Robert and that he was born in Ireland. There are no other legible Colister stones, I believe.

When I was in the Rose Cemetery recently, I looked for Phebe Colister, but could find no stone for her.
Michigan death records show the death of a Melvina Colister, age 2, daughter of William and Lois Colister, Sept. 9, 1867, in Bath.

|Linny||RE: John and Nancy Phillips|
So happy to hear back from you. My GGG grandfather was John Phillips married to Martha Grosvenor Davis. John was one of 4 children that I know of including Henry, with whom he had the J&H Phillips Oil Cloth Manufacturing company, another brother whose name escapes me and the spinster sister I mentioned, Nancy. I know Nancy was born in 1816 and died in 1896. I also believe that John, Henry and Nancy's father was John also and came from Rhode Island or Massachusetts. Originally, I was given info from my grandmother who started me with family history at age 15 in 1970 that GGGG grandfather was John Phillips who married Ann Hathaway. I believe that Henry, who was the oldest child was born in Rhode Island in 1810. His brother John was born in Pittsburg in 1814 so somewhere in there, they must have moved West. 1816 Nancy would also have been born in Pittsburgh. If John and Nancy Sr were their parents, then the mother, Nancy died when Nancy Jr was 20. All the records I have about her indicate that she lived with her brother's family for the rest of her life. Also, John and Nancy Sr are buried in Pittsburgh and it would seem likely that they or those who bought the plot to bury them also made arrangements for Nancy Jr. Finally, as I am sure you are aware, it is not uncommon for parents to name their children after themselves and as Nancy Jr was the only apparent daughter, that would make sense. AND I just had the thought that Nancy SR is Nancy H. Phillips on the stone which could mean that she was Nancy Hathaway Phillips instead of Ann Hathaway Phillips.
One confusing thing to me is that I have not been about to find where Nancy Jr's brother John and my GGG grandmother Martha are buried. Most of their children are buried in a plot in Allegheny Cemetery. All made it out of childhood.
Thank you again for what you have provided. It would be neat if we found out we were related. Let me know what you think if you so desire. In the meantime, happy hunting to both of us. Lin
