Bio Photo Born in Franklin, Va, but lived in Murfreesboro, NC for the last 60 years. My family was in the Funeral business for almost one hundred years, so I have visted alot of cemeterys and Churchs in this area. I am currently a crane operator for Metal Tech of Murfreesboro, where I have worked for almost 18 years. My hobby and part-time job is Photography, Portraits, wedding, commercial photography. During the time my father was in the funeral business, he also owned a jewerly store and Photography Studio "Holland Art Studio" in Murfreesboro.
We also had a framing shop for the the photograpy
work he was doing. I broke my first and last camera at the age of four, and Argus 35 mm. My father got it fixed and I have used that camera for many years until about 15 years ago. Everything is digital now , what a change.

Any mass burials at Poplar Spring?
Hi Joel,

I am looking for a mass grave or mass burial from a steamer ship, the Olive, that sunk in February of 1903 in the Chowan River. There is a newspaper article that says several people who died in the shipwreck were buried in unmarked graves at Poplar Spring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kristina.

Response from Catherine Outlaw
Joel, I've at last gotten a response from Catherine Outlaw. We have carefully been editing the burials at Hall-Rogerson Cemetery.
By the way... another cemetery has been located in Kenly, NC... Pope Family Cemetery... I am working with Nancy Faber who is related to all 18-25 burials at that Kenly, NC cemetery. A good find.

Post gravestone photo
Joel, would you please post the gravestone photo showing on 87804199 on the other memorial/same name, in this cemetery.
I had already asked Catherine Outlaw to delete memorial 87804199.
I also have posted a death certificate on 87804199 and I'll have to move it.
Have not gotten response from C.Outlaw for over a month, but if she complies with the edit request, then 87804199 will be deleted.

Ramsey cemetery

Thank you Joel for the update on cemetery condition. NO I have no relation living anywhere near Hertford county, in fact the Borland family was researched by me because Dr Euclid's young brother Solon's youngest daughter was the step-mother to my mother's aunt's husband, Carl Raymond Gray, vice chairman of Union Pacific RR in 1939 when he died. One of Euclid's relatives lives in Plano. Texas who said he had a sister in Mobile. It would be of interest which Ramsey once owned the land. Henry Ramsey ran the Indian Queen hotel when LaFayette did his visit 25 February 1825. Henry died in 1827, with hotel burning in 1890, Henry, the maternal grandfather of Elizabeth R (Moore) Borland and Judge Benj Winborne said in one of his books his wife had ownership of the land where Ramsey cemtery was, her maiden name was Vaughan, I blieve. Its been awhile since I studied the family. Looking forward to the other photos being added to the pages at Find A Grave.

We restored a 1 acre cemetery in 2004 at Clarksburg, WV where my great and great, great grandparents are buried, it being abandoned by the Methodist church in 1964, and now, posting the 143 gravestones discovered.
