I live in Newton, Iowa and will be happy to locate and photograph markers in my area.
I retired from the Air Force August 1 2009 after 26 years of service as a Master Sergeant. I am also a member of the Rapid City, South Dakota Masonic Lodge #25 and the NAJA Shriners.
Photography is my hobby/passion. I will try to fulfill as many requests as possible with quality photos. I enhance all photos to provide the best quality I can.
I trim grass covering markers and sweep off debris to enable a clear view of the marker. I photograph the entire marker as well as a close up of the name inscription. Past experience I have learned people like to see the entire marker and not just a close up of the inscription. I also photograph the back of the marker if there is any inscription on the back.
I NEVER rub chalk or other substances on markers. Chalk will DAMAGE a marker and speed the deterioration of the stone. I use a foil technique that uses aluminum foil to enhance the inscription. This technique does not damage markers and actually works better than chalk.
I can e-mail the full size photos upon request.
I recently became a member of the Jasper County, Iowa Cemetery Commission.
I am interested in my family genealogy surnames of Bickle, Baker, Hoy, Kintz, Plumb, Rinard, Bladwin and several others.
RE: Memorial #132430048 It is most important that the photo of the gravestone is kept, because additional information can always be added/edited. So which do you prefer - that you keep the memorial and I can edit some info and delete my memorial; or that I copy your photo and add it to my memorial, and yours is deleted? I am ok with either way.
Memorial #132430048 Hello, I saw on Find a Grave that you provided a gravestone photo for Nancy Garrett Kitchen #132430048. I was delighted to see this photo of my great grandmother's stone as I have never seen it before. I had created a Find A Grave memorial #125529269 with a link to her spouse also. I would like to have the photo of the gravestone on my memorial but did not know if this was possible? Is it possible to link the two memorials or does one have to be deleted? I know some people do not like to see duplicate memorials for an individual but this does not bother me. I would rather see two memorials for her than to have the one with the photo of the gravestone deleted. Thanks,
Pleasant Parrish Ricki I would like to ask you for a transfer of memorial #55110071 regarding Pleasant R. Parrish. He is my husband's maternal great-grandfather. My husband's grandmother Mildred Parrish-Griffin, Pleasant was Mildred's father.
Just as an added bit of info. I now have this Pleasant's father who was also named Pleasant Richard. Now that I have a cemetery for him I can add him to Find A Grave.
Gerhardt Leffler's online memorial Hi Rickie, Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to visit the cemetery and take the photo of the headstone for this online memorial. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated!
Alex Kessler Rickie--thank you for the photo of Alex Kessler's grave stone. He is my great grandfather's brother and I have been trying to trace him from Wisconsin where he was born and living according to the early census. But then in the 30's lost track of where he was until the 30 and 40 census showed him in Iowa. Didn't know for sure if this was the correct Alex Kessler until I saw his grave stone with the birthdate, etc. Thanks so much. I am interested in your foil technique for obtaining details on markers. Could you send information to me? Thanks. Marma McIntee
Wm. Rider Thank you so much for supplying an excellent photo of this gravestone. It helps me in my research of Civil War veterans and I sure it will be useful to many more. I'm so impressed with the volunteers for findagrave! Gratefully, Suzanne A
