I began researching my Ancestry back in 2009 after my father passed away suddenly only 5 days after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, since then I've learned that I have relatives literally buried all over in my little hometown of Whitley County, KY though many of those I never knew their names or where they were laid to rest until I started contributing to this site so I try to help others while finding out more about my kin who have passed on as well.|
I am proud to be a member of The Whitley County Historical and Genealogical Society & I try to do my best to contribute my own data and also to pickup where other researchers have stopped, there is much to still be learned & found in the Ancestry of Whitley County, KY.
When I first began researching the cemetery books and records of Whitley County, KY it didn't take long for me to realize that they were in some need of updating so this is another one of my goals in my researching as I appreciate and I'm proud of those who have before me went out into these beautiful Bluegrass mountains looking for their ancestors & documented all that they found for the future generations to be able to research to.
I specialize in the very old, forgotten, unknown location, and lost to time cemeteries of Whitley County, Kentucky, and so far I've had alot of luck.
I do all of this work thoroughly because I know that my parents Denver "Judge" Rose and Dorothy Marie Carnes Rose would have wanted me to so for my Dad & my Mom I will always remain strong, focused, & truly grateful for all that you both have taught me.....this is for you both my very much missed everyday, remarkable, unforgettable parents I am so proud to be your daughter.
Our lives are like a vapor merely here for a while, and then gone so every moment is important.
I will live for the simple beauty of the present moment remembering those who have gone before me because the spirit of the dead shall survive in the memories of the living.
And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.
My feelings are that in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors.
To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve.
To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead breathing life into all who have gone before.
Your tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiselled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
My sister Pat sent this to me.
Ever felt an angel's breath in the gentle breeze? A teardrop in the falling rain? Heard a whisper amongst the rustle of leaves? Or been kissed by a lone snowflake? Nature is an angel's favorite hiding place. ~ Carrie Latet
Note - I and two of my siblings including one brother have done DNA testing thru www.23and.com so if there are any others who have also tested and would like to compare DNA just send me a message & by the way the Rose/Bennett/Harp/Powers/Hamblin DNA tests showed some Native American though I've already contacted the Ridgetop Shawnee about this & I did receive an email though nothing further.
If I do receive anything else from the Ridgetop, I will be happy to share the "Powers" proof that I have about Whitley County, KY.
Since I was born, raised & I have lived my whole entire life here I know many old timers who know of the stories & secrets that get passed down thru time with generations, the sort of things that you won't find in any book about Packard, Gatliff, Coalstone, Nevisdale, etc.
Note - I descend thru 3 Bennett's:
1 - Rebecca that married Jesse Powers.
2 - Levi that married Nancy Harp
3 - Edward that married Elizabeth Rose
I wish for it to be noted that I DO NOT believe Ezekiel Bennett is the father of the above 3 mentioned Bennett's, I DO believe that John Bennett is their father.
