I have been interested in genealogy since the early 1980s. My paternal grandmother gave me her information on the family lines and encouraged me to keep up with the family - which I have. She would have been so excited to find the many family that I have been able to find via the internet and all its availability. |
I am a President of the Grady County Historical Society, and was one of the editors of the "Cemeteries of Grady County, Georgia", compiled in 2006. Having been a member of the Society since 2000, I have served as President, Vice President, Secretary and an area representative for the Spence Community.
I am also a member of the Mitchell County Genealogy Society, beginning a project of adding information and photos to Find A Grave site of Mitchell County Cemeteries.
I have gathered information and pictures and compiled a book on the history of the Spence community of Grady County - including its people, businesses, schools, and churches. I AM PUBLISHED AS OF NOVEMBER 2014 - "A Look At Times Past In Spence, Georgia" I can add another published book "Branches, Leaves and Roots of the Henry Lee and Mary Melissa Johnston White Family" as of August 2016.

I wish I could be of more help.
I do not descend through William James Newton and Cynthia Elizabeth Massey Newton ... but through Cynthia's brother Green Massey who married Joannah Hill (my gg grandparents) .
Cynthia and Green are two of the 12 children born to Lucinda (last name unknown) and Kimbrell Massey.
The information I do have came from a descendant of Cynthia and Green's younger brother Newton Elmore Massey Sr.

I am sorry to tell you that both of mine are duplicates. The person who did them spelled them as Maguyrt and this is the correct spelling for the headstones. I also believe you have the incorrect person. This Cynthia married John McGuirt in 1850 according to Ancestry legal records. Married in Columbus, GA. There is no record of an earlier marriage. The same has happened with a Martin Eubanks and most have barked up the wrong tree! Cynthia would have only been 16 when she married John so too young to have had another husband with children!

What proof do you have of this person being married to the Newton man. I do wish Gloria was here to see this. She was the granddaughter of Miss Ellie who was suppose to be Cynthia's daughter! Gloria has passed, but she did extensive work on the McGuirt family!! She even wrote a book on them and it is located in the Dougherty Co. Library! I am going later this week and see her proofs because Gloria had proof for everything. I do know that if you do not have proof that someone is married to so and so, then it is not necessarily a given! I am also going to the Calhoun Co,. library to see the marriage license! As I stated she is in my family!

These are my children's Long family and I am asking for proof of this information.

John is not shown on anything regarding the memorial. I will be happy to add John, when you give me something to verify.
Duplicate requests were made for the parents of Rosa. Declined one.
You know this, without me having to do this over and over again. Please do send the source with the request.

Donna, I made a memorial for my friend Charles at Meigs Cemetery. I believe he is buried here because we have a copy of his application for military headstone.. It says his marker is a flat Bronze marker with latin cross. Any help appreciated in finding his grave.

I am sorry, but I can not help you. I did not add any of those memorials. I can tell you, though, if you'll go to each memorial, you'll see the authors in the bottom left hand corner of each memorial. They may be able to help you. Thank you for writing, however. Happy taphophiling, NGNG

Thank you so much for this new information. I am so glad to be able to have the proper burial place.

This couple died the same day. Do you know if they were in an auto accident, or just what did happen to them?
Just one of those things that drives me insane, when I cannot find an answer.
Thanks for any info.
