Bio Photo Feel free to contact me for photo requests in the Tallahassee area. Also, you have my permission to use any pictures I have taken.

It is my goal to accurately add as many photos and memorials as I can in my general area. I do this by correctly locating and identifying the cemeteries, and then using census records to verify and link the memorials. I have been to over 130 area burial sites and hope to register many of them with the state's Department of Historical Resources.

I also am trying to add and link my ancestors, including Wright, Atkinson, and Carmichael on my father's side, and Ingalls and Kinne on my mother's side.

Thanks for your advice. It has been corrected. In addition, I was able to find an obituary and post it on her memorial.

RE: Florida State Hospital
If you would, please contact the legislature concerning the conditions of the cemeteries at the Florida state Hospital. I have included how to contact your reps if you live in Florida and who to contact if you do not live in the state. Also, I included a copy of my email that I sent to my reps. Thank you so much for your kind words and help.

Find your Florida elected officials:

You should be able to access their emails on the web pages.

1. Please make them aware of the survey done by Chicora. I inserted the link and how to access the report.

2. Ask them, specifically, what was going to be done to ensure that these cemeteries will be preserved and maintained.

3. Remind them that these cemeteries are under the care of the State of Florida and on grounds owned by the state and, therefore, the State of Florida's responsibility.

4. If no response within a week, then call. Please continue to follow-up

Copy of my email:

I am not a resident of your district but what I am concerned about is.

My husband's grandfather died at the Florida State Hospital in Chatthoochee in 1926. We have searched for his gravesite for years and only within the last month have found it. The Chicora Foundation of South Carolina was asked to do a survey of the old cemeteries of the hospital. An extensive 243 page report is available on their website: www.chicora.org.

It was only through their efforts that our family member's burial site has been located. But because of this report, we also found out about the deplorable conditions of these cemeteries. Their neglect goes back many years. There are five cemeteries in all with #3 & #4 cemeteries in the worst condition. The Chicora Foundation was thorough and detailed even in the preservation and maintenance needs of these cemeteries.

In the name of decency and what all is right these cemeteries need addressed. I have been in touch with some people at the Department of Children and Families and understand that there have been some recommendations done but not nearly enough. And, of course, it is not difficult to know why - funding. Most of the neglected graves were of indigent people. My concern is not of the neglect 50 years ago but of the neglect today.

If you have not been aware of these conditions then, please, become familiar with this report. If you are aware - then I would like to know the plans for preservation and maintenance. I understand that the next step has to come from the legislature to appropriate funds. The cemeteries are in dire straits. The recommendations were made two years ago, particularily since two of the cemeteries are in the wooded areas and are being overrun with forest. And now we have two years of added growth to an already forested area.

Thanking you for your action in advance,
