I live in South Yorkshire in England and am willing to look for graves etc in the local area.
I am trying to make a full record of the cemeteries I live near and am using local history records to add in the details for headstones which I cannot read or are missing. I started this when tracing my own family tree and my aim is to help anyone tracing their family. I do not want to upset anyone, so if anyone wants me to remove or transfer memorials please let me know.
Tip (Copied from England Discussion Forum):
To do a search for cemetery or churchyard in a particular county go to cemetery search and begin with a full search for all in England. Find-A-Grave will say that there are too many records and that you should go back and refine the search so that it returns fewer results. Ignore this and in the address bar at the top of the screen, where the url reads:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScn=&CScntry=5&CSst=0 replace the 0 at the end with one of the following codes. There may still be several pages of cemeteries in the list for the county, but it is easier to look through
4216 County Durham
4811 East Riding of Yorkshire
4217 East Sussex
4220 Greater London
5248 Greater Manchester
4226 Isle of Wight
4233 North Yorkshire
4240 South Yorkshire
4244 Tyne and Wear
5249 West Midlands
4247 West Sussex
4248 West Yorkshire

Thank you for what you do. Of course, please check that the ones you delete are actually duplicates. We don't want to inadvertently lose a Czech RAF memorial.

Just wishing to convey my profound appreciation for
the work your doing, and as a result, managed to locate a missing relative, whom almost had eluded all descendants.
His name Cryril Viney William SIBLEY (AB) b.27 Jul, 1896,Erith, Kent, England, who died 13 Jan 1934 aboard the "Resolution,Southern Harbour Malta..
Although only a second cousin x removed, there are many closer living descendants who would echo my sincere thanks to you for solving this enigma of his passing.

I was sad to see that the gravestone of my grandfather's brother had been broken when laid flat. It must have been recently as I had seen it upright not that long ago. Fred belonged to an Army family, his father and brother (my granddad) were both long-serving. Fred died of meningitis, following a long spell of pleurisy whilst in hospital in Aldershot and was buried in the Military Cemetery.
There were no family in Aldershot area to care for the grave as the family were posted to many different places here and overseas.
I do hope the cemeteries keep records of the actual place of burial when they remove the headstones.

Charlie: I'm having a little trouble understanding the relationship between all the folks shown on this headstone. Hannah Snipes was 76 yrs old and died in 1866. I believe she was Hannah Fisher, b. Jun 1789, d. 1866, buried with her husband, John Snipe in St. James Church in Braithwell. If this is true, who are the Shepherds? Go easy on me, I'm a Yank.

I misspelt Ann's maiden name incorrectly, it should be Turner, not Tuner.

Thank you so much for posting the pic of my Grandfathers (Leslie John Gascoigne) headstone. This has meant a lot to my elderly mother (the Sheila Brookes mentioned on the stone) who is no longer able to travel to see it.
