|C.C.Diamond||RE: Westlawn-Hillcrest Vets|
Thank you for answering our request for help identifying vets. If you do remember someone, please let us know so we may add them to the list.
Please let others know of this project sponsored by Centennial Masonic Lodge #326. The more people that know about it, the more complete our list will be. We know many that served in the military have no indication of their service on their grave.
Carl and Carolyn Diamond

Hi! Sorry for the short note. Thought you might wonder who Lillian and John were. Lillian was a VV from the Catskills who was a nurse in WWII. She and John lived in SC where he was an insurance executive for Prudential Insurance, I think. They attended many of the early NAVVF meets. They kindly gave me a ride from the London, Ontario, Canada meeting to Peru, Indiana.
Lillian told some great nursing tales!-One about a little old man in hospital who striped off all his clothes and ran down the halls with Sister nurses in pursuit yelling, "Mr =, you must put on your slippers or you'll catch your death of cold!"
I sent basic email to the minder of her memorial site but it hasn't been added yet. . . .The rest of the story.

We are currently working to identify anyone buried in Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery Omaha NE that has served in the military. If you have a loved one buried there or know of someone, please send us a message. We place flags on the graves for Memorial Day. This project is sponsored by Centennial Masonic Lodge #326.
If you can send us the names, we will be sure to include them on our list to get a flag.
Thank you for the help with this ongoing project.
If you have already received this message, please accept our apologies for the duplicate message.

Thanks for the mailing. I've been trying to reconcile this Isaac. Today is his 215th birthday!
The evidence given on Find A Grave for Asa Kimball's parents in NY and what I saw in Burlington, Boone Co, KY, just do not jive. (I'll have to find my notes made enroute to the Columbus NAVVF meeting.) Asa's father died in Boone County and his mother remarried to someone nearby, maybe in another county. There were probate records about the re-marriage and wife's land.
Mary's name read to me on the marriage record as Buffin/Buffie/Buffee. I thought it might be "Buffum." There were a bunch of Buffums in Erie Co, NY, in 1800 to 1820. Seems there was a Richard and a Richard Buffum Jr in Colden, Erie Co, but I haven't found a properly fitting Mary who was a descendant.
The info carried on Find A Grave seems explicit. The names and dates in both KY and NY for Asa and Isaac are too significant to pass up.
I'll keep trying to sort this out and will let you know what I find.

Onalee Lell Buttles Van Vaulkenburgh's husband was William. He remarried after death of Onalee and son at childbirth.

Thank you so much for the reply. Perhaps you can help me. My maternal grandmother was Clara Geraldine Van Valkenburg. I believe she was born in 1905 in Manchester, Mich., and passed about 1939-1940 in a sanitorium from Tuberculosis. She was married and divorced from Jay Dewey Thorne. Geraldine's parents were Charles Jewell Van Valkenburg and Ida B. Hendershot. Charles father was Randall Archie Thompkins Van Valkenburgh.
I am looking for more birth or death information on Geraldine if you know of any? And, I was told by my mother that Randall V.V. Had enlisted in the civil war at the age of 14 as a drummer boy. I have been trying to find some confirmation of that. Is there any chance you can be of help with either of these mysteries? My thanks in advance.

Sorry I have been away so long, I have been digging up info on Howard and his son, Ted.
I have found someone who worked on father and son's estates and I called to see if they would share any family information.
Hopefully they will come up with something, but the holidays have really messed up the schedules.
I hope to post something on their Find A Grave sites in Feb.
Many thanks for your reply and I will keep you posted if you are interested.
