I've always been fascinated with grave sites, visited cemeteries, made rubbings, took photos, etc. and must say that find-a-grave is an ideal site.

I've worked on family history projects for over 35 years and will for as long as I can. I'm more than happy to share family history with anyone interested.

The primary names I research are STROOPE, KEA, Pitts, Howton, Trammel, Hopper, Hale, Thetford, CARPER, BARTON, Lyon, Phipps, Griffith, Ellison, Shumate and many allied lines.

When I document a grave site, I try to include some information on the parents, siblings, marriage, etc. hoping this will help someone identify their relative. In some cases, when recording my line, or lines, I've created memorials for as much of the cemetery as I've had access to.

I'm not likely to post obits. I prefer to glean information from any I receive.

I'll be glad to transfer your family member to you. Always remember the FAG # for the memorial page and, of course, your FAG #. PLEASE do not send me a big list of names with no numbers included... thanks

If I have grave site information in error, please contact me so that corrections can be made.

Recent projects include:

--Gig Harbor and Haven of Rest Cemeteries, Gig Harbor, Pierce County, Washington

--JCC Smith Cemetery in Texas

RE: Clarence Bressie
She could have, but doubt it, she died in 1940.
and was in the 1940 census with her husband.
She has a very unusual name, (Allifia), that should make it a little esier to find (maybe).

RE: Clarence Bressie
thanks for quick response. I'm really trying to find his wife Allifia Moore. I think he married Mildred after Allifia died in 1940. But can't locate where she is buried.
Thanks again

I have seen those Thetfords on while I was looking for my Thetfords. You don't forget a name like Permelia. My problem with Dennis is I can't find a link between him and the other Thetfords living in Gibson county while he was there. For instance, I have found his and Hester's marriage certificate from Gibson County but it was Hester's brother, Nicholas that co-signed the marriage contract. The custom was that it was a male family member of the groom (except his father) that would co-sign as a guarantee that the marriage would take place, otherwise they'd forfeit $1,250.00. Hester's brother co-signing it tells me that Dennis didn't have any other male relatives that could or would sign, although there are several other male Thetfords listed as living in Gibson County at that time. He and Hester were married in 1829.

Re: Find A Grave Memorial# 88429388
My Thetfords moved from Tennessee to Texas around 1846-1847. They had a land grant through the Mercer Colony. My great-great grandfather was named Dennis Thetford and my great-great grandmother was Hester Wilson Gray. Their son, Reason A. Thetford was my great-grandfather and his wife, Emily, was my great-grandmother. Dennis was born in Tennessee, Hester was born in Kentucky. They had 7 sons; 3 were born in Tennessee, 3 were born in Missouri (including my great-grandfather Reason A. Thetford) and the 7th son was born in Texas. Dennis and Hester had a land grant through the Mercer Colony, as well as Hester's brothers, Nathanial and Dr. Robert Gray. My great-grandmother's grandfather, James Marlin, had a land grant in what is now Falls County, through the Robertson Colony. Emily's mother was Rebecca Marlin Smith, her father was Charles Smith. From research I have done regarding the surname Thetford/Thedford, there is a difference between the two. There is a town in England named Thetford. If you were part of the landed gentry and held a title, your name was Thetford but if you were from the area, your name was Thedford. I don't know if my family was part of the landed gentry as I haven't been able to get that far back yet. I've come to a dead end on Dennis's side of the family with Dennis. I have been able to find Hester's parents and grandparents as far as the grandparents sailing to America from Ireland in 1770. It is very possible that the Thetfords from Mississippi could be related to the Tennessee Thetfords (Gibson County). There are still Thetfords in Gibson Co., TN. I have found.

I don't remember if I asked you this before, but in your information, you mention that one of the surnames you search for is Thetford. Are you related to Emily and Reason Thetford buried in Gonzales, Texas?

RE: Stallings
Hello, I have checked all my records resources and cemeteries around here and found all you mentioned you found and do not believe he died in Idaho, perhaps Montana as he did live there too or perhaps Texas. Sorry I can not be of more help to you. Good luck!

RE: Joseph Alsop
Thank you! Thank you! To you and your friend for all the time you've taken to help.
It is puzzling as we can't find Rose's death and I really don't think divorce would have been an option as Joe and his brother Samuel were both staunch Methodists.
One day maybe I'll get to the bottom of it! If I do then I'll post it on Find A Grave.

Many thanks again to you both,
