I have my mother to thank for my interest in old historic cemeteries. She used to take my sisters and me for picnics to cemeteries and we would read headstones and epitaphs and take rubbings. She was always drawn to the unique and unusual stones. As I grew older, I too felt drawn to unique and unusual memorials long after my mother had passed away. |
I am also very interested in ancestry and have traced my roots back on almost all sides to and beyond the Mayflower. I have direct bloodlines to family in every war with my entire line being Union, not a Rebel in the bunch.
My husband and I moved to Audubon, NJ in July 2014. I share my interest in cemeteries with my husband and combine this with our shared love of American History. Heaven knows there's plenty of that around here!
I am very happy be of service to photograph headstones.

Great sleuthing!! Thanks again so much.
Yes, a lot of records don't jive which makes research confusing. It's a problem on Findagrave with several memorials having wrong dates. That's partly why I request photos, as I can't tell you how many times I've found that the birth/death data on the person's stone doesn't match what someone put on the memorial page!
And just recently I found two Gilbert Finches in one cemetery with two very different birthyears. Got photos for both and hey, it's the same grave!
Then again, we'll never be bored with so many questions to answer, right? :^)

Wow, that's some dedication - 300 photos! It's great that you are so willing to try to identify stones before they are lost to time forever!
Thanks again very much for your time!

|The Lady in Black||Re: Fred Postal @ Woodmere in Detroit|
That is the best I could do for Fred Postal. There are no footstones visible (Fred, Minnie, and two children, Gladys & Marjorie are in the plot, N 173, according to records), and one of the graves in the plot has sunk, so there's a ditch in front of it. I did not see any Woodmen of the World markings on the monument, so I have no idea where that notation came from--normally, the Woodmen Memorials are clearly marked, either on the front or sometimes on the sides, no matter what the design of the marker/monument. I was hoping to get all of them, and at least get a marker for Fred with his name on it, but no luck.
If you ever need to look up memorials at Woodmere, here's a web site:
