Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family history since 1973. Find A Grave is a great resource. Surnames important to me: Harp, Hoagey, Swavely, Krause, Sheafer, Kline, Keeney, Irvin. Most of our family was in Pennsylvania.

Oakland Cemetery has over 15,000 known interments. The Bureau County Genealogical Society has maps and caretaker records for this cemetery. The BCGS has very good information on all the cemeteries in the county.

I enjoy the search and challenge of finding the graves. Photo requests get my highest priority. When I go out to fulfill a photo request, I photograph all the markers in the family plot. The rules I follow; "Photograph the grave/gravesite "in-situ", or as it appears in that moment in time. The purpose is to show the grave as it is, be it dirty, cluttered, broken, or pristine. It is not your job to clean it, clear it, fix it, or decorate it. The graves are not yours to do as you please. Remember, one person's "good deed" just might be another person's vandalism. Go take lots of photos...but do it like an anthropologist and do not disturb the grave site. -AJ" Mar. 10, 2013

When time permits, if a memorial does not exist I create one. I also search for some records to tie the people together and add a bio. I have a backlog of photos to create memorials. Each trip involves multiple cememteries and normally 300 to 500 photos.

If you would like to use my photos, please ask. I have recently experienced some issues with my photos being used inappropriately. I want to share, but I want to know who, what, where, how? the photos will be used. Transfers and edits, please use the EDIT tab.

Memorial90097628 picture
The gravestone is hard to read. The father appears to me to be J. C. McKinstry and the mother is Euphemia McKinstry. She appears in the 1860 Fed census. About 1863 in his US draft reg he lists himself as a widower. On May 17 1864 he marries Caroline Kaar (or Karr) I have been searching records for Euphemia who must have died in Bureau after 1860 and before his draft reg and his marriage to Caroline. Euphemia is listed as Mary Taylor on John C McKinstry (Jr) and Sarah Ann McKinstry's death certs. John C and Euphemia are my great great grandparents. Are there unmarked or unrecorded graves in this cemetery? - Joyce

Memorial #105383645 Catharine Becker
My husband is a descendant of Catharine Becker, and we recently found that a plot exists in Oakwood Cemetery with many relatives. I believe that this memorial you created, as well as #78669714 (Catherine Baker) is the same person. Is there any way to merge the two, so there is not a duplicate? I recently requested photos and information from the caretaker there, and he sent an actual cemetery record with all the names in this plot. Her name is spelled "Catharine" but was listed as "Baker" on the record; however, on the headstone it is "Becker". I assume whoever reported the death listed her as "Catharine Baker." The creator of the duplicate misspelled her name, as I have contacted her to let her know this. She did check and verify that it is "Catharine" on the cemetery record. The photos taken and sent to me, as well as the one you took are the same headstone. Are you related to this person? Thank you,
Diane Thompson

newspaper article
I found a newspaper article from 1929 of the Soldiers, Sailors and Marines buried in Oakland Cemetery. Do you have it?
