|Jan Bos from Nijmegen, Holland||RE: Lieutenant Kenneth H. Wakley|
Tom, sorry I am not on facebook, so please help.
anything I can do for you. If I do not know I can ask my friend Gerrie Franken, who is researching the airwar over Holland, he also knows lots of the market Flights
|Jan Bos from Nijmegen, Holland||Lieutenant Kenneth H. Wakley|
Lieutenant Kenneth H. Wakley was pilot of a C-47 from the 310th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Group. On 21 September 1944 there were five crewmembers on board of the transportplane. On 21 September 1944 the plane dropped eleven Polish paratroopers at Driel, between Arnhem and Nijmegen in Holland.
Leaving the dropzone the plane was hit by enemy anti aircraft fire and crashed north of Nijmegen. The five crewmembers were killed. The men were first buried in the temporaray American cemetery Molenhoek, south of Nijmegen. After the war three crew members were buried in the American Cemetery Margraten in Southern Holland.
Two men, including Lt Wakley were repatriated and buried in cemeteries in the States.
The crewmembers were:
1st Lt Kenneth H. Wakley - pilot
2nd Lt Bruce W. Borth - co-pilot
2nd Lt Milan C. Beerman - navigator
Sgt Carl L. Javorsky - radio operator
Sgt Magnus R. Ludvikson - crew chief
I have adopted the grave of Magnus Ludvikson and am in touch with family members. I am preparing a story about the men and plane crash
You took a picture of Lt Wakley's grave, can I have your permission to use the picture, of course you will be credited
another question is - can you perhaps help me find family members of Lt Wakley, any help is more than welcome
From Holland wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year
Sincere thanks for finding the grave marker and providing the photo for the memorial page of Rfn Suraj Gurung.
