Many days have gone by, turned into years long ago
I reach for my album, because I long for you so.
As colourful leaves descend from a majestic family tree,
That moment is captured becoming a photographic memory.
Ancestors on tintype, images frozen in time,
So we know who we are, have been passed down the line.
Black and white prints of grandparents now yellowed by age,
In the "Book Of Life" this collection forms the next page.
Snapshots of a beautiful young women, a man with eyes sky blue
Soon to become parents of a baby daughter and little boys "two".
Because of these treasures, my link to the past
Memories of my loved ones forever will last.
And when a dear friend asks me my life story to impart,
I'll show her my "inheritance", the people who live in my heart.

Prayer For Genealogists
Lord, help me dig into the past,
And sift the sands of time,
That I might find the roots that made
This family tree mine.
Lord, help me trace the ancient roads,
On which my fathers trod,
And led them through so many lands,
To find our present sod.
Lord, help me find an ancient book,
Or dusty manuscript,
That's safely hidden now away,
In some forgotten crypt,
Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts
My soul, when I can't find
The missing link between some name
That ends the same as mine.
ONE FINAL GIFT.
Scatter me not to the restless winds
Nor toss my ashes to the sea.
Remember now those years gone by
When loving gifts I gave to thee.
Remember now the happy times
The family ties are shared.
Don't leave my resting place unmarked
As though you never cared.
Deny me not one final gift
For all who came to see.
A simple lasting proof that says
I loved and you loved me.
I shook my family tree
and a bunch of nuts fell out.

Hello. I to never got to meet my great grandmother, but was told how special she truly was.
My grandmother is Hattie Mae Smith-Schaefer-Hunter from Knoxville, Tennessee. Her grandmother is Mary Margaret Hodges, daughter of William Hodges, Jr. and Sarah Jane Morris (who were 1/2 first cousins).
So your great grandmother and my great great grandmother were first cousins.
I'm writing because I wanted to tell you that I cried when I saw your picture of Nettie. I looked at her then at a picture of my mamaw, Hattie Mae and thought that they were one in the same person! Just with a slight difference in age, due to the fact that Nettie was, as you know, born in 1870 and Hattie Mae was born in 1901.
Just thought I would share.

Thanks to your assistance I was able to locate and photograph the "other" Wise Cemetery today.

Thank you so much! Mystery solved. At some point I will try to visit the one on private property (with permission of course!)

James- Thanks so much for responding. I probably was not entirely clear. Yes, the Wise Cem I am asking about is the one with no entries and looks to be only about 100yds from your Wise Cem. I think it was put there by F-A-G who automatically loads cemeteries that are on TOPO maps. Is the one you did visible from 221 and right at the intersection of 194 and 221?
If so, that may mean that there is another one very close by but just north of the River? Just trying to figure out if I should go looking for it or not?? Many thanks. chet

I noticed that you recently photographed a Wise Cemetery in Avery Co. I also see that F-A-G has 2 Wise cemeteries listed which are very, very close together and I am wondering if they are the same cemetery just with slightly varying GPS readings. Would you mind looking at both of them and, in particular, the 2 maps to see if you can recall exactly how you got to the one you photographed? (As you will see, one location appears to be right in the highway and the other is on the other side of the river and appears to be accessed down a side road going off the highway.)
Any insights would be very much appreciated.

Thanks James! Struggling to find out where Isaac Dison originated from.

In John Johnson Cemetery you posted a photo of J A Dison. I have a great grandfather x3 who is from this part of North Carolina, his name is Issaac Dison and he married a Charity Edds, his son, William Dison his my Great grandfather x2. William and Eli Dison came to Alabama and both married Johnson's. Just wondering if you knew of a connection?

Information was posted on his memorial. Thanks.
Since you are a relative, would you want me to transfer his memorial to you? Just let me know. Have a great day........Poppy*

Thank you for putting the pictures of Jacob "Uncle" Jake Carpenter and some of his family on. I have tried to find them, even asked family down there for pics. So glad to see them. I was going to share that if you put chalk on the older gravestones it brings out the words better to read. I have done it and it works great.
Thank you again. Anymore Carpenters or Pyattes would be greatly appreciated.
