My name is Robert C. Johnston, Jr. I live in Wetumpka, AL and have been researching and documenting my family tree for about 13 years. I have proven my lineage for Sons of American Revolution and Sons of Confederate Veterans. I love researching in courthouses and walking old cemeteries, taking photos and transcribing tombstone inscriptions. I also love hunting down and photographing my ancestor's old homesteads across GA, AL, and MS.|
My Father's lines are all from MI, OH, and RI. Many of my Mother's lines can be traced back to 17th Century Virginia. My primary maternal surnames I'm researching are WHITE, OLIVER, NEWMAN, MCCOLLUM, WIMBISH, ALLEN, SHELTON, GOSS, CARTER, WILLIAMSON, HEARD, HAMLET, CORNELIUS, CARLISLE and GILLILAND, mostly migrating from VA>GA>AL>MS. My paternal surnames I'm researching are Johnston, Francis, Wilson, Beckwith, Eddy, Arnold, Westcott, and Woodhead.
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone,
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist.
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and love.

Hello Cousin Robert,
Thank you so much for adding the info to the bio. I have tried to get our other "cousin" to change their link, but have had no success. I even pointed out that her headstone shows that she was Matthew's wife not Richard's. But, another of our "cousins" left a comment saying that she had divorced Richard and then married Matthew. What a mess.
I descend from Elizabeth Adams Word Hooper and Charles Word Jr. They were my 4th great grandparents. Then through their son (3rd great) Joshua Word who married Amelia Hooper. Her father was (another 4th great)James Hooper (Richard Brooks' brother) who was married to Elizabeth Chambers. Which makes Obediah Hooper and Massilva Brooks my 5th great grandparents. Joshua and Amelia's daughter Martha Elizabeth Word who married James Ervin Watson was my great great grandparents. They settled in Calhoun County Alabama.
I wish I had a copy of that will from Charles. I have been looking for years. I am sure you probably already have it, but I do have copies of the original estate records and inventory for Richard Brooks Hooper. I also have papers for a lawsuit that was filed against his estate. If you don't have them, let me know and I will gladly email them to you.
It is really nice to meet another cousin.

I noticed your were researching Joseph Simitz. I believe he was a younger son of Frank Simitz and Mary of Highland Township, Washington County, Iowa. My gr.grandfather's sister was married to Frank Simitz Jr. Her name was Barbara Bulin. She died young and then that Frank married a Barbara Vrochticky Hotz (widow of James Hotz.
Joseph's grave is in Mt. Olivet, Riverside Iowa. He died at the age of 21 or 22.
His parents, Frank and Mary eventually went to live with their daughter Mary Simitz and her husband Frank Rezac. Frank Rezac was Barbara Bulin's step-brother. Frank Rezac, Sr.'s grave is in the Catholic Cemetary in Jackson, MN. Buried by Mary and Frank Rezac. Mary Simitz is buried somewhere in Iowa, as by 1895, 1900 Frank Sr. was living with his son, Michael F., near Solon, Iowa. I believe.
Another person contacted me whois researching the Simitz family, and looking for their village of origin in Bohemia. Perhaps it is close to Vyrov and Jarov which is were some of the other families who came to Washington County came from.

There were inscriptions on two sides of the monument but I couldn't make anything out on either side. One side looked like it might be readable in the right light. I'll take a look the next time I'm by there to see if it gives up any secrets.

I added her parents who are my GGgrandparents. Thanks for the info.
