I research my own family & am chief VOLUNTEER genealogist for Porteous Associates - worldwide group which collects trees & shares information for all Portei. We don't sell, post or publish trees as we respect privacy of living individuals, but exchange info with interested family historians. If I've entered a family member of yours & you'd like to manage it, do ask - glad to transfer.|

|Deb||Mark Porteous - Innisfail Cem|
Hi Pat, Just wanted to let you know I uploaded a headstone photo for Mark Porteous in the Innisfail Cem. From his obit, it looks like I may have set up Mark & Margaret's daughter, Flossie G. Fox and her husband Stanley A. Fox. The Fox & Porteous markers are side by side. Let me know if you'd like a transfer :D

|Dorie||Porteous Family at Lakeside|
I *think* I have made the changes you suggested for several individuals at Lakeside Cemetery.
I found Walter and Vera (Porteous) Stang at Lakeside (they were not near the others) and connected them to their daughter Ruth Ann. I also connected Vera to her parents, Jesse and Mabel.
I also connected Rosemary Wolff to her father George Wolff. I found her mother Dorothy Porteous (and her husband George Mitchell) and connected Rosemary to her mother as well. I also connected George Wolff with Dorothy as a spouse. I don't know who Dorothy's parents are, so I haven't made that connection.
Please let me know if you find any errors in my connections. It got a bit confusing to keep them all straight! Jesse/Mabel, Dorothy/George and Ruth Ann are all near each other in the cemetery. Walter and Vera are in another section.
I am curious about one thing. You found the memorials for these individuals shortly after I created them (within a day or 2). How did you find them so fast?!!!? :-)

OK, I have added the photos.
My other message was unclear I guess - the other Porteous plot I found was Roy and I had added the photos. (interesting to note that this grave is directly behind my parents - been there many times, but I was shocked when I passed by there the other day and saw the Porteous name). I'm always looking for more and I see there are still many more to go.

|Goldrush||RE: Julia Porteous - birth?/marriage?|
Julia was an Allen. I believe that the marriage notice of Alva to Julia Phillips was simply a mistake. Grace Phillips did marry a Porteous and so that might have caused the wrong name to be used.
1900 census Nevada City, CA: George H. Allen 47 born England (Married 19 years)
Sarah J. Allen 50 born Wales (had 12 children, 7 still alive)
John R. Hopkins 30 born Wales. Son
Maggie Hopkins 23 born CA. Daughter
Henry Allen 16 born CA (George Henry)
Julia 12 born CA
Robert 10 born CA
Samuel J. Coltell 48
Thomas Laity 50
Edwin Hopkins 28
(Sarah Allen clearly was married before to a Hopkins)
Also Albert Herman Howe married Bernice Ewing Oct 15, 1913 in ID. They must have divorced because she remarried to Wiley Routt in 1962. Note in his obit that he had a sister named Leola Ewing so he may have married the sister of his brother in alw.
1910 Census Nevada City, CA
Alvah Porteous 29. Married 3 years (this would make the year of marriage as maybe 1907)
Julia Porteous 22 born CA. Parents both born England.
Hardy Porteous 2

Calaveras Prospect 7/21/1900: Alva Porteous married Julia Phillips on 7/15/1900.
Calaveras Prospect 6/30/1917: Robert L. Smith age 26, married Julia Etta Porteous age 29 on 6/23/1917.
And since someone gave the info for the death certificate and said her maiden name was Allen, could Julia have been married to someone by the name of Phillips first?

|Fay||RE: Matthew Porteous|
You may be correct. I've wondered if the Margaret born in Ontario in 1845 (listed as Wm and Mary's child) was possibly Matthew's wife.
There is a Margaret on the 1871 census. Also the children are listed with the correct ages, but as David and William Kennedy, and Mary Manning. Strange.
And where did you find that absolutely gorgeous photo of Duncan Porteous and Jane Carkner and family?!!

Thank you so much for the info. I actually had been planning on contacting you!
Matthew's daughter Jessie Agnes married my third cousin William Henry Moore. Do you know anything more about Margaret, or where Matthew and Margaret are buried?
