Bio Photo Find-a-Grave rocks!

Let me know if you need a transfer if you can add more bio info. Hope everyone gets out there and photographs some stones - that is the main reason this site exists. Thanks.

Found this inscribed on a stone in Warwick, Ma.:

"Low in the ground my bed is made,
here in the dark alone I'm laid.
Depart my friends and let me rest,
I'm weary of this wilderness."

Found this on a find-a-grave profile:

Old Bones' profile poem"

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

NOTE: A couple personal policies I follow:

1) I do not link to "burial location unknown" relatives. You're supposed to know where they are buried - that is the whole point of this website.

2) I do not list cause of death unless it is some tragic accident. Would you want to be remembered forever for dying from diarrhea/diabetes/alcohol abuse etc.? I find it a bit tacky - but to each their own.

Thanks

Ann Porter Payne
Porter Family
I have not researched the Porter family in 20-25 years and was surprised to find wife of Richard Porter was Ruth Dorcet and that his parents were Richard Porter and Mary Marledge. Do you know of any documentation for this or who the active Porter researcher is for the present day? Thanks, Ann

Hi Ryan,

I deleted my duplicate memorial. I thought I had purged all of the duplicates but I guess I missed this one. Thanks for finding it.

RE: Experience (Porter) Chaffee #95648114
The cemeteries have been merged!
Now I have lots of updating to keep me busy for weeks, since I can only spend a bit of time each day on the site.
Keep checking back to see the progress.

Hi Ryan
Still waiting to hear about the merge.
I am going to wait a bit for that to happen before I add too much other info, in case I have to do manual transfer of info, so bear with me.
I do not have a lot of extra bio for the Chaffees, except all the connections they have with the other families buried in West Athens Cemetery. Many sisters of one family married brothers of another, etc.
Just an example: Rufus, JR's first wife was Susan Russell and her sister was Catherine Russell -- Catherine married Elijah Chaffee [older brother of Rufus,JR]!
Elijah is/was my 3rd great Grandfather. So, thru marriage we would be related!

RE: Experience (Porter) Chaffee #95648114
Actually there are memorials -- they are listed at West Cemetery, Athens. Someone JUST listed all the info [131 people] she had from an old Vermont Genealogical Magazine. I have been in contact with her about the name confusion. I am trying to get the administration to merge the two cemeteries. I hope to hear something soon.

If you wait a little while, I can let you know when/if this happens. She has asked me to take over management of the list and the merge is my first priority.

My relations are the Chaffees - Rufus, SR was my 4th Great Grandfather -- Rufus, JR's brother Elijah was by 3rd Great Grandfather - so Experience would have been a 3rd Great Grand 'Step' Aunt if you want to be technical!?
I found MANY other relations at the cemetery during my first visit in October 2014. Hope to take another trip to VT this spring or summer.
I will keep you posted.
Meanwhile take a look at West Cemetery, Athens.
